What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Watching Woodstock and I'm starting to think his nest where he displays is actually his bathroom lol I hadn't noticed that he's pooping when he does that dance lol
I guess proximity of bathroom to bedroom is a consideration in the new house lol
Since I want to breed Bettas again, printing a brine shrimp hatchery base.

Haven't gotten around to installing the Sicce due to laziness and the need to modify a couple minor things (much longer oxygen tube and cutting sponge). Accidentally caused another seizure in Crawley (this time the usual stiff pass-out type) doing the usual water change yesterday, but also just plain scared her today - I'm starting to feel like she thinks I'm punishing her for deciding to come out during the day. :( :(

And just want to cheer myself for finally finding a way to get Sai excited about feeding, and thus to eat regularly - for some reason he really likes when I wiggle the floating water sprites and drop food through them, and for breakfast to be in the hour before the lights turn on.

Crawley was out all day with what looked like a mild kink in her spine and had a few seizures, but she managed to get around to several different spots and lost no color so it mostly just looked alarming. The appearance of a kink is new, could be a non-obvious injury or something stuck inside I'm guessing considering her desperation to move around despite it. Led me to consider what to replace her with should she die, and that more than with big tanks you have to consider individual personalities and roles when you replace nano tank inhabitants. She's basically the detrivore in the tank, and I have no idea if Parona would pick up the slack, so I'd have to consider maybe a tiny cory(ies) or possibly shrimp again since there is now enough cover most would probably be able to evade Sai. And I'm sad to think that way, like I'm giving up. But there's not much else to be done. :/

It's always tough in those situations. It's never easy to watch a pet get old or injured. But it's also OK to think about the future.
I lost my dog a few years ago, he got me through some tough times during and after my divorce. The last few years were hard on me watching him get older and seeing him slow down and lose mobility. Sometimes I'd feel like a jerk because I couldn't help. But there isn't much to be done for aging. Earlier this year one of my other dogs had to be put down due to illness. Again, I felt bad I couldn't do anything. Being sad about losing one shouldn't keep you from being happy or excited about getting a new one.

Just feeding the last couple days. Had potatoes to harvest and a way overpowered for a 10 year old foam dart blaster is being printed out lol
1000015380.jpg1000015388.jpg

Depending on the spring we put in, it can do up to 270 fps. He's been wanting a magazine fed version of his blaster. There are 3d printed kits you can buy, but no files. I found this crazy thing. Way oversized and overpowered but exactly what he wants. The instructions that come with this free 3d print are better than any instructions provided by any manufacturer ever. I will fight over that statement lol Full color instructions including the printer values, assembly, available alternate versions of parts etc.... This creator is definitely getting a cup of three of coffee.

Then this happened lol I have 8 different rolls on order. Going to finish it off with colors.

At times I hate having big fish. I get home and the bottom part of my intake strainer is popped off. Then I notice the tabs that hold it in place are broken. So I drill a couple holes and zip tie it in place for now. I will need to order another one now. Not the first time they have done this either.

It feels worse when they're young, like Crawley, who's most likely just a couple of years and you don't know at what point they should be considered 'suffering' or fine with recovery. Today she was flushed out of the floating log by Sai that she hasn't been in since the day I bought her, and seized again but was also shortly after searching for food, and she wasn't kinked. So...:rofl?

On a better tank note, its taken God knows how many months but Ryan has FINALLY decided to school with her Minions!

I don't think she likes her caricature lol I'll do it in color next week when more filament arrives.

How many times do I have to tell Loki "Get down" in a given day? lol

I did the first aquascape intervention to the little desk tank yesterday. It was wild...

Last May when it started:

I have decided to let the ludwigia grow out of the top and go searching for light, it's turned out pretty neat. Yesterday was also the first time I've ever vacuumed the substrate, pulled about 40 nano swords out and it pulled all the mulm out of the soiled sand/gravel mix. This has been a crazy build to watch mature for sure.

Whats in it other than plants?

Cherry shrimp, ramshorn snails, about 1.75 gallons of water and ~5 lbs of black diamond sand capped with magnetic rocks (so you can pull them to the top when they sink into the sand). It took a while for the shrimp to come back out in the open after the invasive plant work, they have a great hiding spot in the back left where the ludwigia roots have pretty much made a birds nest to hide in.

Tired of the kiddo begging for Robux to feed their addiction? Me too. 3D printing Robux to throw at him next time he asks. If he's not careful they become time tokens lol

So, in between swapping plates printing things for the kiddo to take with him next week to visit family... I scraped algae, pulled hair algae out of Woodstocks tank again. I really should take the light off his lid. It's plenty well lit by the light I have above it for plants. The extra LED lighting the absolute bottom is probably overkill. Both for algae production and a bottom dwelling fish. Also moved a juvenile Betta out of the grow out tank. Was getting a bit nippy. It's in with the swordtails until I can sex it. Which leaves a really pretty pink and black and another blue but can't tell the irridescence.

Outdoor cultures are definitely down this week with the rain. Barely any mosquito larvae, no smaller daphnia / scuds etc.... Indoor culture is doing well. The back up culture/ QT has an occupant with an appetite lol One of the wife's Bettas was swimming a bit weird. Rest are fine. I think she might have been bloated. Doing well now munching on live foods and frozen bloodworms.

I take it back, Ryan is not schooling with the Minions - she just staked out another territory next to them. Makes me wonder if the observed behavior of kubotais as 'less tight schoolers' is actually more like each one likes FAR more personal space than other rasboras (like how us 'mericans prefer 3 feet of personal space) and stake territory in small tanks. Its also free swimming space that Parona has trouble chasing her in since garras aren't meant to free swim for long, but Sai has resumed the chases/possibly bizarre attempts at flirting with the vigor of the old man dragon he has become. Debating whether to trim the water sprites to free up more space, even tho Sai likes sleeping and eating in them where he can watch TV. So much drama! :D

I rinsed, brushed the cat hair off, and cut pieces out of the spare sponge I had and buckled down and installed the Sicce Shark Pro Nano. Not happy: Sai. Happy: everyone but Sai. Might be happy or might be freaking out: Crawley. Parona had to be discouraged from suckering her way up and out behind it while I was positioning it.

I am concerned whether I should reinstall the air stone or if the 'air silencer' on the venturi outlet will be sufficient for oxygenation under the flat lid of the tank even tho its right under the 1-2 inch opening at the back. I don't do high light or Co2 so the plants aren't bubbling. Nevermind, I reinserted the airstone (into the tank, not the filter) for this first night just in case.

Now I wonder if my neighbor's weed fumes are getting my fish high. :lol

On a different note: I think I garras might need to eat fry food instead of pellets or wafers. Seems to me it would be easier for an aufwuchs eater to eat, and Parona is going for it in the morning when I drop some in for the blues over pellets and wafers. She also seems not at all interested in bloodworms, tho she does like powdered Bug Bites.
