What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Oh that sucks. I'm having trouble with figuring out the new settings for pictures on my iPhone so you guys can see Crawley's last pic, where she's doing a moray impression.

I have to correct my sig anyway. Crawley came out for breakfast this morning and expired. No seizure or anything, she was already laying there in front not breathing, tho there was a last minor twitch or two. Sai and the Minions stood vigil over her for more than an hour and then they just left, no attempting to eat or otherwise bother the body. Buried her in the pot of my fiddle leaf fig.

She did have swelling in the same back spot as before, plus behind her head this time so I'm guessing maybe cancer or a blockage or repeatedly aggravated injury. I'll test the water in a bit and think about what to replace her with. BTW, not as upsetting as watching her suffer or figuring out a way to euthanize.

Probably to reduce loading times, run smoother etc... There's usually a "for best performance yada yada use desktop" sort of thing hidden in there somewhere lol No biggie imo.

Forced the baby goldfish into one spot with a couple Pleco pellets.

Heart shaped tancho marking. This one might get its own tank and special diet.

Tank was super quiet and still today, even considering that I turned off the airstone to see if the filter was pulling in enough oxygen (it is, but I turned on the airstone for overnight). Might be that I'm not 'hearing' the Minions's (blue rasboras) clicking back and forth about Crawley (kuhli) anymore.

Yesterday after Crawley was pulled from the tank the male Minions had some arguments about allowing the subordinate male who'd been responsible for keeping tabs on her back into the school proper, but today they all hung together, save for a couple forays by the one male to make sure the predator is still gone. Sai (betta) spent most of it in the back corner (Topfin corner tank) under one end of the PhosGuard bag under the filter, behind the shrimp houses Crawley used to inhabit, like he's depressed. Ryan (kubotai) ignored everybody while enjoying the current in the right corner, and Parona (garra) just cruised for bacteria.

I think I will replace Crawley with a blueberry snail and some neo shrimp some time in the next month, provided my LFS gets some and I can afford them.

Thanks for your support everyone!

P.S - realized that Sai and the Minions were not standing vigil over Crawley at the end - they were WATCHING HER DIE, then making sure she was dead by continuing to watch for an hour after the last twitch.

Getting to be that winter time frame where I spend more time with the fish. The tanks are usually even cleaner because I have no outdoor projects to work on. Most tanks get at least a 50% water change once a week but a lot of times I will so a little extra spot cleaning with the gravel vac and the tanks really look good.

No real plans to do anything with stock at the moment... unless something passes away (Red wolf?). Kind of happy with how my stock is right now and only looking to replace out one goldfish with another. Just been waiting for the perfect fish, which I already know will be an expensive fish.

Water change with pulling the sponges out of the SPN for the first time and dang, the tiny sponges were as dirty as the sponge filter sponge used to get. Plants happy. :D Pulled the air stone for good, too.

Sai (betta) built only his second bubble nest (he's 2) yesterday, and has been defending his non-existent babies - or trying to convince Ryan (kubotai) and Parona (garra) (both females) to mate with him because he's the bestest boi at chase, its hard to tell the difference. X3 Neither take him seriously, though Parona gives as much chase as she gets until Sai decides he's done by stopping in the water sprite, leaving her to go on her merry way.

BP - what would she do if you put a little water feature like a fountain with a waterfall in her enclosure? Or would that be a bad idea? I mean something that would have like a tiny trickle she could rinse off with or drink from, not a whole fountain/pond/bowl like you would do for a tropical species.

Sorry to hear that. Always tough to lose a fish.

A 6 gallon tank is too small for all the fish you have. Sometimes it’s hard to keep the water quality up due to the bioload compared to the tank volume.

Also kuhli loaches, garras and rasboras all seem to do better in groups of at least 6 or more individuals.

RIP to Crawley

She really likes a mist sprayed on her. Waterfalls and water deeper than their shoulders can be a problem if water gets in their noses they can drown :( But she has a nice big water dish for soaking / pooping in :)

Added the 3 chocolate cichlids from @fishguy1978 to the 210 + 75 system this morning and spent all day monitoring them with the datnoid and polys. I am pleased to say that they are all getting along and swim around placidly. The datnoid, though predatory, has lived with a 6-7 inch Ctenopoma acutirostre its whole life and therefore is used to smaller fish around it. The H. Liberifer has been too belligerent and remains alone in a 75 with a Liosomadoras oncinus.

Well I was gone since the 12th, so today I did a little rearranging of the Angel tank(75g). Cleaned the prefilter, which needed it, but I am really happy with it's performance. I got one piece of driftwood sank and did a little bit of scaping attaching some of the previous floating plants and put the other piece in to start sinking. The water is getting more tannins, but like the look of tannins in the water anyway so I'm not bothered by it. Removed 3 snail egg clutches. Stirred up a bunch of stuff while cleaning and scaping so I'm waiting for it to settle before I vacuum. The bubbler was under the moss and was stirring up the detritus that settled in it. So moved that.
Went over to the guppy tank to see how they were doing and was very surprised that in my absence the cleanup crew has been doing gangbusters. All of the algae that was plaguing the tank is gone. Even the stuff on the heater. But I will have to get rid of some of the little ones soon. 1000005980.jpg
