What did you do with your tank(s) today?

I love the look of discus but the reputation of the amount of work required to keep them makes me leery to attempt it. I think I would attempt an Angel tank before Discus. I tend towards the easier fish to keep. @lloyd378, when you gonna refinance the home to go with those discus? lol :rofl

@John58Ford, not funny John :D :rofl (heavy sarcasm) It hurt for over an hour and every time I would wash my hands it would deactivate the venom. Their nickname is wasp catfish:oops:
I was able to get it moved during water changes.

In my fishing adventures I've been stung by many a fish. It's not always the target species that require a rag or a glove, but instead it's the accidentally caught fish that aren't usually there(so occasionally my thick fluffy rag will not be present). I had a trip casting for salmon in a deeply channeled river entrance where I had no rag and we brought in a dozen or so sculpin, by the end of the trip it was a humorous game to see which of the two of us would unhook the little guys, then sooth the sting holding a nice cold beer. I do recommended the method.

I have never been stung by a fish. But it is kind of a worst fear if I were to ever keep my dream fish, stingrays. Ive been poked by cichlid spines but nothing with any venom. Been bit by cichlid’s in ‘breeding heat” and thats really about it. One of the worst fish related injuries I read about was when a fishkeeper had the tip of her finger bit off when she was hand feeding her puffer. Its a dangerous hobby, lol

The motor on one of my Fluval FX6 filters seems to have gone haywire- it only spins the impeller in irregular pulses. I cleaned everything and installed a new impeller, and that didn't solve the problem. Anyone seen anything like this before? A new motor is spendy- $160.

Im thinking that the little board in there that turns the motor on/off to purge is likely shot and thats why its having the issue. The new motor assy. would likely fix that issue but it is an expensive fix!

Interesting read on the FX4 having 'pulsing' technology:
Of course one of the solutions... replace the motor

I had to euthanize “red” this morning… after a week of floating on its side, the female started shredding his fins and biting him all over. He was estimated to be about 10 years old and measured out to about 13.5” total length.

I wish I could have got him to breed.IMG_3709.jpegIMG_3710.jpeg

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, as there are not many other possibilities. Ordered a new motor from Amazon this morning; it should be here later today. Fortunately the FX6 was on a lightly-stocked tank with adequate filtration even without the FX6.

Thanks for the info and the link.

Been happy that the Oscar and Pearsei have been getting along so well in the 300. The Pearsei has been startled a couple times now by the fast reaction to feeding by the Oscar but that has been it. No gill flare or anything between the two. The Oscar is still fussy about food and likes his Omega One veggie rounds. Oscar still hides a lot, but is much more outgoing than he was in the 90.

Ordered a new motor for my cranky FX6 from Amazon yesterday at ~10 a. m., and it arrived here at 6 p. m. It works fine, so clearly there was something funky going on in the original motor. It's odd, because I had never heard of such a thing, but obviously it happens.

Im glad that fixed it. Kind of a rare thing to have to replace the entire motor out. I havent had to do that yet, but mine have been running quite a few years without issue, so Im sure that Im due for something.

Best way to replace the loss of a fish?!? Move fish to different tanks and then buy new fish.

So today I moved the Dovii X jag from his 75g to my 180g. He measured in at 11” total length. I then moved my fahaka puffer from the bedroom tank to the lower garage 75g. Then I went to the petworks where I spent some cash on new stuff for the bedroom 75g.

I got a pair of Australian killi fish
A school of 9 black tetras
1 blue angel baby
1 male orange flash apisto
2 female orange flash apistos
5 bronze cory cats.
And five live plants ( I don’t remember their name as it wasn’t that important to me, haha).

Here are a couple of water spot pics of the fish right after release.

When they are settled in tonight, I’ll grab a close up video.

*** the female trimac went to my buddy Shannon last night which is why the 180g was freed up.
