What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Stopped by AP to buy some clams on the 1/2 shell for the arrowhead puffer…. While I was there, I also picked up 3 tiger barbs for the community tank.
How were they looking? Well stocked? Empty tanks? I need to stop in and see if I can unload a couple trimacs.

Pearsei settling into his new tank. A bit overwhelmed and afraid of his bala shark tankmates but he is smart and will figure it out. He did eat an algae wafer so not too bad of a move. But not hand fed this time, he is a bit wary. He is kind of just exploring the big tank.

Gravel vac water changes to the 6 garage tanks this morning. Red devil did okay for the night in the 90. Not sure how it will be long term. It was pushing at the pleco this morning.

Pearsei happy in the big tank today

I hate pictures like this where the tail is curled and then it gets caught in that moment where it looks like a deformed tail, lol

So refreshing to come out in the morning and see a nice looking tank with nothing dug up. So far the pearsei has left everything alone, hoping it continues to be this way, but its only been in the tank a couple days and still is adjusting.

At the moment it is wary of everything. Not sure what to make of its bala shark tank mates, lets them take its food and stopping taking wafers from my fingers. Ive just dropped in the algae wafers and its picked them off the substrate. I need to throw in some floating pellets to get it up to the surface to feed.

Today is probably a rest from tank work day since water changes are done but I need to get some frozen foods for the puffer. Might try some clam on the half shell after talking with @lloyd378 about feeding his puffers.

Went to Lakewood Petsmart for frozen food. Picked up frozen spirulina brine shrimp and treated all the garage tanks to a little treat. Puffer didn’t know what to make of them at first but eventually started eating them. Im trying to vary his diet but looking for some other frozen stuff in his size. Was hoping for mysis shrimp but none at the store this time around. I need to check Petco or Aquarium Paradise tomorrow.

I was at ap on Friday and I picked up both clams on the half shell and krill…. They had tons of food in stock, but then again, they may be low again as their store is crazy busy on the weekend.

Will see if I can stop on the way home and see what they got. Ive been considering ordering online but shipping for the frozen is pricey. Looks like its an easy $2.50 or more savings per package of frozen food but would have to order at least 10 to break even with shipping. I dont really go through it that fast to merit it just yet. Maybe there should be a group buy?

Went to Aquarium Paradise yesterday after work around 4:15 and looked around. They were pretty fully stocked and Dom was not in so I didn't get to talk to them about bringing in fish. I saw a really nice looking albino tiger Oscar with very nice shape and very outgoing. Would have been tempted to get it if I had an empty tank for it. Oscars are such outgoing fish and cute at small sizes but sometimes these man made ones can look pretty bad, this one was a nice one. I took a look at the clams on the half shell and the bag was a bit big for my needs at the moment to feed the one little hairy puffer, probably like a six month worth bag. I was hoping for the smaller sized Hikari bags but it was the larger Ocean Nutrition.

Had to do a delivery for work down to Lacey, I was so tempted just to go a bit further south to Petworks during my lunch break but I was good and didnt abuse the use of the company van, lol. But Aquarium Paradise was on the way back and stopped again and the cool albino tiger Oscar was gone. Noticed there are some oddballs that have been there a while, a electric catfish, a couple rays, a vampire tetra. Dom wasnt around to talk to about bringing in trimac but he did have some tank space....

Well summertime is here... you can tell by the activity levels on all the fish forums out there, lol

Well the pearsei settled into the 300 very well. It still is a bit wary of the bala sharks but it will swim with them, and let them steal his food. Im sure that will stop when the pearsei realizes they are no threat to it and as it puts on more size. The tank is feeling 'right' with the stock. A bit empty looking but with four 12" amphs out of there and a solo fish that can get 16"+, it just has the feeling like its not overstocked.

Been feeding the big guy my mix of pellets that I still have on hand with Dainichi being a main food. The fish absolutely loves the Omega One medium floating cichlid but trying to use up all my food by mixing it in. At this stage the fish can stand to put on size and weight so Im not concerned as much about type of pellet being fed. As I go through my food on hand Im going to be looking at a better plant based pellet for him. Seriously considering Hikari Cichlid Excel floating to try. I know Hikari has got a bad rap as to being a 'cheap' food but its been around for years and tons of fish have lived long lifespans on it. The excel is for herbivore cichlids and ingredients dont seem any worse than any other foods. As posted in my fish food posts it is difficult to find a bigger pellet veggie formula for these fish.

Thats my update for the day... Anyone else on the forum?

I get what you mean by slow forums in the summer. I've been out enjoying nature's fish tank, the bluegill are starting to clean their breeding pits at the smaller lakes, I've been following a school of Chinook into the hood canal in real time as well as tracking the hunger of the dungeness out near Hansville. My boys aren't as interested in hanging out in the fish room with so much flat water outside to play in.

As far as my tanks go, today I will try and get some glass scraped, my "jungle 29" still hasn't balanced since the last major plant cull, I think I had the roots too bound up and now disturbed so it's the wrong kind of green

On the way hope I stopped at Aquarium Paradise and picked up some ghost shrimp for the puffer to play with. Saw him get one and he looked happy. He now is sitting in the 'hunting' position waiting for food to come his way, lol

Yesterday I finally finished installing all the filters on the four new 75s, as well as cleaning filters on a number of other tanks. Each 75 has an Eheim 2217 canister and two AC110's, which should be sufficient for their current bioloads. All of my tanks have multiple filters, and I never change them all at once, so this filter-cleaning day comes up pretty regularly. The only filters that are a pain to service are the powerhead-driven sponges in the four 40L's on the lower level of each rack. I'd love to have HOB filters on these tanks, but there's just no access (although you will notice that the 40L on the right has a HOF!). :)

Got to go home early today so I worked on gravel vac/water changes on all six garage tanks and did a drain and fill on the 300. Nice feeling when all the tanks are clean. Plus I pumped out water on lawn and plants so they got some fish tank goodness on them.

At about 4 a. m. this morning I awoke to a high pitched sound off in the distance; at first I wasn't sure if it was real or imagined, but as I listened more carefully, there was no doubt that this was some kind of alarm. At first I thought it might be an anchor alarm- there was a mega-yacht anchored in Liberty Bay- but for sure I needed to check this out. Then it dawned on me- one of the water alarms in my fish room was sounding. These things are crazy loud, like a smoke alarm, but my house is L-shaped, and my bedroom and the fish room are at opposite ends of the house, so by the time the sound waves have bounced around enough to reach the bedroom, it's not very loud. Sure enough, one of my canister filters was leaking, and it was sitting in a small puddle of water.

These are the water alarms I use on all my setups. They're only $12 each, and have saved my butt more than once.
