What did you do with your tank(s) today?

So fish that become true ‘wet pets’ in our house get named. My new hairy puffer is named ‘Gizmo’ because he reminds me of the Gremlins movie. Basically a cute little monster, lol.

And now for my pearsei… my last one was Porkchop basically because it was a major piggy. The current one is no exception, it can eat a lot! But what to name it? Eating from my fingers less than a week at my house, secured its place as a ‘wet pet’ family member. After some thinking, I thought of these qualities, the fish sucks down food, once an adult its built like a tank. This made me think of this:

But on a more whimsical look at it…Cute with GAINT appetite, the ‘other’ Kirby

So its official…. Drum roll…. meet Kirby

Thank you to @lloyd378 for coming by for the female trimac and talking fish for a bit.

Moved one of the trimac out of the 30 into a 65B and split the 30 in half instead of in thirds. A little more space for the two trimacs in there. Gave them a light cleaning/water change. Also cleaned the pearsei tank and a light water change in the 46 bowfront too. I like when I can do a little spruce up towrds the beginning of the week.

Fed the little puffer some krill until he had a nice little belly bump. Will alternate with bloodworms since thats what I have in the freezer at the moment. Need to buy some other frozen foods for it. Was thinking to add some ghost shrimp or something for it to actively hunt. Was thinking the 65B is huge at this stage for this little guy. Might need to put him in the 30 once I sell some trimac. The smaller tank would make it easier to feed and care for him until he gets more size.

Made it home from a longer trip out of town, was glad to see my fish sitter got everyone fed a couple times. We cleared screens and filters and checked water levels, finally did some head counts. To my surprise our clown pleco came out to see what the activity was all about with all the whites on, he's(maybe she?) usually a twilight special.

Tomorrow I may have to do some cleaning in this tank, I stripped a ton of plants out a month back and the only things happy are the mosses and algaes. I may let it run natural though, usually everything levels out for me eventually.

Looks like it might be covered in odontids on the caudal area. If it looks like fine hairs all over from the pectorals back it's a male. Males are more stream lined and females are more plump and no odontids.

Finally feel like things are getting back to the balance I had before.

This weekend might just be a fish moving weekend with @Madness taking on my male midas and then a swap of the red devil and pearsei in the 300. Not sure how the red devil will react going to a 90g with my rhino pleco but he is not necessarily a 'keeper'. For now a filler for the 90, if he adapts well then maybe permanent. Been doing some serious thinking of doing a larger community in the 90 so that why Im not sure on the devil. I could see a SA tank based around a Sev with larger tetras or rainbows. Still doing some research on combos of fish for that one.

As to the 300, Im super excited to have a pearsei going back in. Love the calm, easy going demeanor of these fish. Yet a very outgoing, responsive personality. My last one was not a digger so Im hoping this one is the same. The amphs were constantly redoing the landscape, lol. Hate having the main display tank always dug up and messy.

Made my decisions on my final two trimac Im going to grow some more with one of them being a final keeper. So 3 to rehome for now, two to grow out for a bit and then it will be another tough decision on final keeper.

Hairy puffer also back in the house in the 65B looking so tiny! May move him into the 30 when it opens up so it would be easier to feed the tiny thing.

Lots of positive stock changes happening and tanks not being so crowded or having a trimac in every garage tank. Will be fun adding a few things too.

This is a bit out of your wheelhouse, but if you wanted to try something completely different, I have small colony of these pretty fishes that I might let go to an experienced aquarist who could house and care for them properly. This short video shows that they do all the cool cichlid things- spawning displays, ritualized aggression, even an occasional skirmish- but they never really harm each other. Very cool fishes.

@fishguy1978 and I have talked about Hoplo cats and how cool they are. This is one possible new addition. I miss my old one and want another.

I talked with the Cichlid Exchange today about bulk selling my batch of red dovii fry. They offered $2 a fish when COTA is selling them for $24 at the same size. Ouch.

Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and start shipping again even though it's a pain in the ass. For ~50 fish that's $100 vs. $1200. Worth it for the hassle of shipping. Though I won't be selling them for $24 a pop - more like $15.

I'm following a thread on planet catfish of a hobbyist who is breeding hoplo.
The bubble nest thing is pretty interesting

When I was at Wet Spot they had the Marbled hoplo for like $7.99 each but I couldn’t find the albino ones. This is one I would consider in a 90 community.

Got home and was fed up with my dirty 300. Took a bit of time to scrub out the inside glass, cleaned algae along the gravel line and cleaned algae off plants. Much, much better now. Everything just looks fresh now. But what I consider a ‘dirty’ tank is probably ‘normal’ for most, lol.

Been having fun with the pearsei, hand feeding it every day now. Cant wait to get him into his permanent home in the 300.

This is why I laugh at the ‘kids’ on MFK who think they will become millionaires from selling fry from their fish breeding. The harsh reality is that many places pay hardly anything even for rare fishes.

It must have become dirty in the time between when I saw it this week and today. Haha

when I saw it, I thought, “ man, that’s a crazy clean tank for all of those large fish”! I think you’d flip out if you saw my 125 with my rtm pair…. All sides of glass minus the front are covered in algae!

Im a nut, lol. A healthy tank has algae but I love for the living room tank to look sparkling clean since people see that first when they walk in. I think this is another reason I go nuts about this tank is that my amphilophus LOVE TO DIG! I like a tidy looking tank where the fish does not mess with the aquascape. Hoping this pearsei is like my last one and wont dig and just watch tv when its on… I swear the fish would watch tv with us.

Another water change in the 300, lol, this time because it was easier to drain the tank to catch fish and move them. @Madness stopped by after work and got my true midas male and I moved the Petsmart devil into the 90 and put the pearsei into the 300. Things starting to get back to where they should now.

Stopped by AP to buy some clams on the 1/2 shell for the arrowhead puffer…. While I was there, I also picked up 3 tiger barbs for the community tank.
