What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Worked on a project, a drain tube.

Made a wood jig, heated sand, taped an end of my pipe, filled the pvc with the heated sand, taped other end, bent pvc and made this drain that is set up at 50% for my 75g.

Tried out my drain tube on my Trimac 75 gallon and it was a perfect 50% drain. I want to make one more so I can drain both 75’s at the same time. I need to buy some more pvc to do this. Bending the pvc wasnt too difficult with the hot sand method.

Cleaned AC110 filter on the RTM tank.

Water changes to a couple garage tanks. Spent time with the puffers feeding night crawlers and watching them for a bit. Glad I moved the arrowhead puffer to the 30 gallon. Its a better fit for him and his lack of activity. He still is an aggressive feeder and pops out of the sand when I open the lid but otherwise he is a pet rock, lol. The hairy puffer is still my favorite. Same sedentary lifestyle with the lurker type puffer but she interacts a lot more with me.

Started my morning with coffee and water changes. The garage tanks are so easy to maintain with the utility sink so close. There was lots of planning involved and it all paid off. A high flow faucet makes fill ups fast and a gas tankless heater means never running out of warm water. I can blitz these tank out quickly. Much faster than the 300 even though its pretty much the same gallons.

Im now draining the 300 for some fresh water for the amphilophus community tank.

My PVC bending skills getting a little better... made my second drain tube which came out a bit rough but is usable. I had bent it and the sand was not not hot enough so I had to reheat sand and rebend so it is a bit bumpy at the bend area. I made an extra for another fill up valve too.

This must be what the fishes feel like after a water change. After 10 days of having the house buttoned up tight and the HVAC system running constantly to filter the air, what a joy it is to have clean, cool, fresh air filling the house once again!

I'm up-to-date on my water changes- haven't had much else to do except play in the fish room the last 10 days- so today I will change a few AC110's and enjoy the fishes. My new Ophthalmotilapi nasuta Kipili Gold fry are eating well, and have been chasing each other virtually from the minute their mom released them. I find it amazing how these behaviors are so hard-wired!

Using my new drain tube

This really makes life easy since it stops at 50% so I can work on other things and not worry about it.

Is that just a gravity siphon? The reason I ask is you've been talking about wanting to speed things up. I use a little submersible pump to drain my tanks; it empties the tanks at about the same rate as I can fill them, so when doing multiple tanks I can drain one and fill another at the same time, and nobody gets out of sync. :)

Gravity fed siphon is fine on the 75’s because they sit so high. I think a pump is what I need for the 300

I drained and removed all the plants and gravel from the 2 bowfront last night. This morning I drained the 90g and moved it over to where the bowfronts had been. I removed the undergravel filter from the 90g as well. I combined the gravel from the bowfronts as there was dirt in both tanks and buried some magnolia leaves under that mix. Capped all with the gravel from the 90g and then replanted the bulk of the crypts, dwarf sag, and jungle val. It’s still a bit murky but here it is.
Oh, I also painted the back blue.

That 90g is looking good! I know I got to see a sneak peak when it was only 1/2 full

Garage tank cleanings today. Getting prepared for the 75 gallon swap for the 90. I need to figure out a way to block light coming through the background causing extra algae growth. I found some 1\8” wood paneling that might work well. I could glue the background to it. I just need to figure how to keep the panel in place... maybe command strips or a type of double stick tape.
