With the help of Shannon, i moved the 650 gal beast into the fishroom. Got all of the bulkheads and piping installed in the tank, now it's shopping time so that i can complete the plumbing under the tank and the sump. Filled the tank just over half way so that i could soak some pieces of wood while i finish. 20220806_102330.jpg20220806_102342.jpg20220806_155244.jpg20220806_155308.jpg20220806_184809.jpg

I had a heater failure yesterday, but fortunately it was stuck 'off,' not 'on,' and with the high ambient temperature, the water temp didn't drop more than 6-7 degrees. It's just a 40L grow-out tank, but it does have some young Xenotilapia bathyphilus, a deep-water species that is very sensitive to temperature fluctuations, so fingers crossed. Turns out it was a Marineland heater (of course!); I thought I'd thrown away the last of those damn things a long time ago! Have a spare heater mounted for now, and an Eheim-Jager coming from Amazon tomorrow, at which time all of my tanks will have the Eheim heaters. Finally.

Where? Pictures?!!
Farmland in Silverdale, posted a review of them. I need to get some pics with them by the bigger ones. They are small and I feared the Bocourti might take a nibble at them but the vegetarian in them shows, not even a second glance at them like they are food. So now Ive got 4 hoplo total with 3 being albino. Will try and get some updated pics soon. They have settled in nicely and seem to be eating well.

Well, aquaculture-related...

I received this year's supply of oyster seeds from Taylor Shellfish today- I bag of Pacific Triploid seeds and one bag of Kumamoto seeds. I figure I've done my bit with seeding Liberty Bay with spat from the Pacific Diploids over the last few years, so this time I eliminated those and went with Triploids (which are sterile- no milky stuff in summer) and Kumamoto's, which I've never cultured before. The Kumamoto's take longer to mature, but that's fine as I have so many Pacific's on the beach ready to harvest already. The seeds arrived at about 2:30 this afternoon, just before the tide was about to flood my grow-bag location, so that worked out perfectly. I will keep an eye on them for potential high temperature/low tide situations over the weekend, and move them into deeper water if necessary. The seeds are sensitive at this point because they are so small.

Stopped by AP today and they have a 7-8in female chocolate cichlid. Really nice shape but I’m not in a position to add her unfortunately.

Got the beast plumbed over the weekend, currently pushing approximately 7000gph through it. With a 2500gph wave maker in it. It beginning to clear up for now.

Visited manufactures mineral today and picked up about 650lbs of different substrate to mix together and get a different look. Speaking of substrate, they informed me that the lapis luster will not be available soon, the company that produces it is closing its doors, and the price of a 100lb bag has sky rocketed to $45. Which is why I'm trying something different. 20220814_143520.jpg20220814_143512.jpg20220815_180555.jpg20220815_180921.jpg20220815_180926.jpg

I found a tiger loach for madness’ colony today at aquarium paradise, so I picked it up and dropped it off for him. I also was able to pickup a baby from my old fish Gil to continue his line at my house and a male red Devil that was getting roughed up in one of madness’ tanks.

Oh, and I snapped a picture of “submarine” my Dovii X jag hybrid

Almost wanted to start up a separate topic on this in the plant section... In my 46g bowfront Im having issues with the plecos eating my Anubias leaves. Not sure who the culprit(s) are. There are an adult male and female bn pleco, a green phantom and three baby bn pleco. This seemed to have started when the babies got into the tank. Anyway, the plants are looking rough with little holes getting eaten in the nice leaves. Anyone else have issues like that?

Yes, but not with Plecostomus, with Tropheus. Any fish with teeth specialized for rasping that grazes on algae growing on higher plant leaves will cause this kind of damage, eventually killing the plant. Not much to be done about it, but I'll bet it's the little Pleco's that are the culprits here.

Been trying to be thrifty and use up all my fish foods before buying more. Some was experimental and the fish didn’t necessarily like it but kind of ate it. As an example I ran out of Omega One floating cichlid and started using up NLS floating pellets that were almost identical in size. The Oscar is a trooper and eats it, the trimac wont touch them. Im almost at the time to order point now and my usual go to places all seem to be out of Omega One foods… I wonder if there is a big change coming and thus the shortage. They are one of th ladt hold outs using plastic cans as opposed to bags. Maybe package changes to come? Anyone else having difficulty getting foods?
