What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Installed the electrical plug on the UV and put it back into the system. Everything appears to be working and no leaks… fingers crossed, lol. I feel pretty confident it will work for a while but feel like I should buy a new one to be ready just in case.

Water change morning with all the lower garage tanks getting a good gravel vac and refill. These tanks need the python because they sit so low. Will do upper tanks either later today or tomorrow morning. Those ones are easy since I can gravity feed them into the utility sink.

Still trying to figure out my layout for the 90 gallon tank I want to put the Oscar in. Im thinking a light substrate with a mix of my CaribSea Peace River sand and the slightly larger Rio Grande. Then move the darker stuff into my 65B. I need to rethink the driftwood too. Need more swimming room for a larger fish. Not sure if I want just a hard scape look of wood and rocks or try to add plastic plants. Some possibilities of shopping for the 90 this weekend

Impromptu to visit to some Lakewood fish stores today. My son and I actually went out to get crickets from Martin Henry’s and then a new decoration for his bearded dragon tank. Bought no fish at Martin Henry’s, but did buy two 3” bumblebee cats from petsmart (4.99 each) and a small tiger Oscar for my classroom at aquarium paradise (9.99) .

on a side note: aquarium paradise will be having some small business Saturday deals a week from today. I’ll post up their specials once they get texted to me.

Just did another water change on the planted living room 75g.

i added the Oscar in there for the weekend since he is actually slightly smaller than my tiger barbs.

here are some pics of right after the water change and then me feeding them some spiralina flakes. Of course the bumblebee cats immediately disappeared and I’m guessing I’ll never see them again. I did some regularly needed water changes, moved one of the DIY LED strip lights to the 100g shellies tank, moved the adult H. Multispinosa out of the 60g.

Like @lloyd378 an impromptu visit to a fish store led to money spent.

Im not into fake decor but everything was almost an impulse buy, lol

And an inhabitant for said log

A bit cheesy looking but functional for a while until I find a real piece of decor to act as a cave.

The "impulse" buy made me move the oscar and pleco out into the 90 gallon. Just kept simple decor, not permanent but functional for now

Well I did end up at PetWorks Olympia and they had a lot to choose from... Including the hoplo cats but I passed on those for now.

I had to get a better pic of the new inhabitant, so here it is:

Nice big fish at a good 5" plus for $55. I was planing on buying one online that was 3.5" for $49.99 + $30 shipping but this just worked out better. This guy was a favorite of the store and they had nicknamed him 'Snappy', lol

Been wanting a red wolf for a while now and finally got one!

With moving fish around, I did get water changes done on the upper 90’s. Just need to do the 46g Bowfront.

PetWorks said that the red wolf liked silversides… hopefully they fed more than that. I have a feeling I may need to pellet train him. Having frozen food like krill for the puffer makes it easy to feed this guy but would still like him to eat pellets as a staple.

If all they were feeding it was silversides, it’s going to be an uphill battle for you! I wish you luck.

Tonight, I went to check on the Oscar and to my surprise my large tiger barbs weren’t picking on him ( even though they are bigger than him). I also noticed that my bosmani rainbow was also not flaring and nipping at him. I wonder if cichlids just give off a different vibe then other fish.

with him being technically the smallest fish in the tank ( or roughly the same size at my white tetras) this behavior is interesting. When I picked him out, he was very personable to me but was also being chased by the other tiger and the two albinos.
He will make for one fine water dog for my 8th graders to interact with.

Oh man so cool. Always wanted one. Do these guys ever take to dry foods?

I just received an e-mail from Rare Fish USA about a shipment of wild Tanganyikans that is soon to arrive. It includes Triglochromis otostigma, a beautiful biparental mouthbrooder that I kept years ago, and would love to re-acquire. These fishes dig elaborate tunnels in the mud floor in the lake, and can (sometimes) be coaxed into spawning in lengths of PVC tubing in captivity. These beefy fishes are compulsive diggers, so if you think a few shellies rearrange your substrate, you should see what a 5" pair of trigs can do! Yikes! But do I have room?

Well, the wild-caught Triglochromis otostigma that I've been waiting for have finally arrived from Tanganyika, but they are $70 each. That's not such a bad price, but what I'd really like is a pair, and these fishes are very difficult to sex. So getting a group in order to obtain a pair will be expensive, and what to do with the 'extras'? No way I have enough large-tank space available for a group.

Went to Petsmart because of a $7 off $25 coupon and bought frozen food. Went to Aquarium Paradise and also stocked up on frozen Silversides and spirulina mysis shrimp.
