What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Morning tank clean up. Gravel vac on the 300. Boy was it a mess! I fed tilapia to the bichirs last night and there was a big mess this morning. Its a lot better now but I need to scrub the glass and driftwood along with cleaning algae off the plants.

Water changes for everyone today. Similis started showing spawning behavior after a meal of mysis shrimp and a small water change :thumbsup . Weird thing is the females are shimmying in front of shells and displaying but the males don't seem very interested. Hopefully they'll come around.

Didn't pull the trigger on those F1 sumbu from sand city during the labor day sale. Reaallly wanted to though.

Full tank shots of everything I have right now with the exception of the EBA fry tank. Happy Labor day!

Did a small gravel vac on the 90 with the big rhino pleco. That was just a touch up for all the pleco poo. Then noticed I lost one of the shellies. Scooped the body out of there and did a light water change. The fish all look healthy and seem to be eating well, so not sure what happened to it.

Not seeing any real interesting behavior from the shellies that look like territory establishing or pairing. I see gill flaring, a couple chases, an occasional bulldozing of sand and weirdly schooling behavior. Ive fed NLS cichlid, frozen spirulina brine shrimp and today a few hikari Vibra-bites. They dont seem picky at all. The Hikari was a bit big so that will not happen again for a while. So far I am finding these guys a bit intriguing in that they don’t startle easily and seem very bold for how little they are.

I found a bed of Vallisneria americana in a local lake. I will bring a bag and collect some another day.

Measured out food and filled pill boxes for feeding the 300. This is the only tank I do this with. Portion control very important with a growing pearsei that can eat a lot. You can see some of the mix I feed, currently 5 different pellets of different sizes with a mix of sink and float. The bala sharks immediately go for the sinking and the pearsei goes for the floating. A good arrangement.

Some light cleaning on a few of the garage tanks that were looking rough. So both 65B’s, the 30 shellie tank, 46 bowfront and the rhino pleco tank. No deep cleaning just poop off the top of the gravel and a bit of light algae cleaning.

Decided to move a brooding Cyprichromis leptostoma female from her 125 gallon 'community' tank into a 40L brooding tank, but she spit her embryos during transfer. This was not totally unexpected, as she is a small fish, and this may well have been her first brood. Here is a pic of the 125 containing the Cyprichromis community. The Cyps are the torpedo-shaped fishes; males have yellow tails. It is not easy to catch these fishes in a 6-foot tank-

I put the female into the brooding tank to recover, then retrieved her six embryos and put them into an egg tumbler for artificial incubation. I would estimate that these embryos are about 10 days old, so they have 2+ weeks to go before they would have been released by the female. Here they are in the egg tumbler-

Cute little guys. Fingers crossed. :thumbsup

Scrubbed my Manzanita branch in the 65B because it was just getting so bad with algae. This wood reminds me so much of the spiderwood piece in the 46g bowfront. It just continues with the heavy algae growth until one day it stops. Im hoping it gets there soon! The piece is not really intended as a permanent piece in the puffers tank but there until I can maybe figure how to use it in one of the 90's. I want to redo the aquascape on the puffers tank with some Mopani from another tank.

Today I gave the arrowhead puffer to some good friends that have two established tanks up and running. They have two 40g tanks and the arrowhead is now in the one that used to hold their rams and other small cichlids ( they gave them to aquarium paradise ).

the good news is that we got him into their rank around noonish and then tonight they were able to successfully feed him some frozen krill ( which excited their grandparents who were visiting for dinner).

I know they will interact with him far more than I did and I always love spreading the love of the hobby with youngins.

Been trying to finish up stuff in the yard so fish got a little feeding time and that was about it. Actually looking forward to fall and winter so I can spend more time on tanks.

I did water changes on both 90’s and the swapping of trimacs happened. Testing a theory if one tank has issues that seem to unsettle fish that live in it. So I took the very outgoing trimac and put him in the tank in question and took the skittish one and put him in the tank that everything seems comfortable in. Thanks @fishguy1978 for recommending trying that. I hadnt really thought to do it. Will see what happens.

Busy with yard work still so not much tank time. Have been just watching and feeding.

My new hairy puffer (Gizmo) has put on size and is a super friendly fish. I really want to redo the aquascape on its tank and provide it with a cave for its future comfort. I have the piece of Mopani in mind in my other 65B but just havent had time for redoing both tanks yet. will have a bit more time soon.

The shellies are doing well for the moment. No more deaths and I havent done anything just yet. I want to buy some buffer and salts and want to replace a couple of the fish but am waiting for Wet Spot to get them in. I just cant see placing a Sand Cichlids order for 3 fish...
