What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Started my weekend tank cleanings with one of the 90’s in the garage and then my dirtiest tank I own including the filter. Any guesses what my dirtiest tank is? Of all my tanks its the 46 gallon bowfront with the single Aquaclear 110. Because of the fact the window is behind it there is a lot of algae growth in the filter and on the glass. Despite two BN plecos in the tank it still gets a lot of algae. Plus all the little fishes just fill the sponge with poo.

Slow approach today. Got the other 90 done. Just a tank here and there as I get bored. Likely will do both 65B’s at the same time so I can rethink my aquascape in both tanks.

Got both 65B’s done. Did some major tank aquascape and moved large driftwood pieces around to different tanks, I think I need to sell off some pieces.

I now have a space to add another fish… what to do?

Eating breakfast at County Cousins in Centralia, on the way to Portland to do a little shopping. Kind of a last minute idea to swing into Wet Spot and see what I want to get. Looking at a possible red wolf fish or Bumblebee Oscar.

Just finished outlet mall shopping at Troutdale, getting a late lunch and then it's off to Wet Spot to see if they have what I want

Going to Wet Spot is always fun especially when you have a fish in mind that you are looking for. Some weeks back I went with family who had no fish interest so it was a bit rushed but this time I had plenty of time to look around.

They had a hairy puffer the was like twice the size of mine I got from them recently but it was one of the really naked, hairless ones, didn’t live up to its name. I did see a red wolf fish and I liked it a lot but decided on the bumblebee oscar for now and grow him out in a 65B until I rehome a trimac and the move him over. Then I will likely start seriously looking for a red wolf or purple wolf.

My other new fish was an albino hoplo cat. The girl said I should get a group and that these only get like 2”… this Im pretty sure is not correct info because the fish can get 6” quite easily and from what Ive read when older can become territorial especially if you end up with two males. Well I decided on just one and for now is in my 46g community tank. I really missed having a hoplo cat so this had been on my wish list for a while now.

My maintenance account has 2 in separate tanks. Both hoplo are over 6in and 2in thick.

Yep and Ive kept one In the past that was that size too. Granted my current one is an albino marble and the one I had in the past I believe was a brown hoplo. Could be some variation in size but would think it would still be 4” plus.

The little oscar is an absolute delight, lol. Aggressive eater and very outgoing. Would not have thought it was wild caught. It ate frozen spirulina brine and Hikari Vibra bites today.

Four of the six Cyprichromis leptostoma embryos that I rescued ten days ago (see earlier post in this thread) made it through gestation in the egg tumbler, and are now free-swimming and eating. Today I transferred them into a net isolation tank where I will allow them to grow for another 1-2 weeks before adding them to a 40L grow-out tank that currently has 8 other C. leptostoma fry plus a brooding female who should release soon.

Here they are in their current setup; I tried to photograph the fry themselves, but it's impossible through the netting. These little net isolation tanks are really useful.

Not too bad on shipping costs! I was interested in the L600 pleco but I know they can be pretty aggressive for a pleco. A buddy of mine had his in with some cichlids and it would fight them for food, lol.

Seller has been super communicative with reasonable lag between emails. He is not able/willing to take pics. I'm not sure about ordering sight unseen. Like the other wonderful fish I've ordered unseen

When I wanted to replace my hairy puffer, I knew I had to see it first. Same with my new wild caught oscar. Even with my trimac I wanted choices so I ordered six, lol. To some, all fish look alike but I don’t think so. I wish more vendors would take pics for their customers especially when they are expensive fish.

I am working on getting my extra trimac rehomed and then trying to raise out just the one as my final keeper. This will open up a 90 to move my new wild caught crassipinnis (bumblebee oscar) into. My last one did great with tankmates and had no issues with having a school of Australian Rainbows and a L114 pleco in a 75g. My hope is that this one will allow some tankmates too.

When we stopped at Wet Spot this past weekend, I got to interact with two different red wolf fishes and they were very personable and I immediately fell in love with them. I chose to buy the Oscar because they dont come around as often but was tempted to add a divider to a tank to be able to bring the red wolf home, lol. But no, Im going to do it right. I will order one in when the 65B opens up.

I think that will round out my tanks well with a nice group of ‘wet pets’ in the bigger tanks and still keep my ‘community’ tank going too. The only real “issue” tank right now are the shellies. Im just afraid to do anything to that tank for fear of losing fish. It is looking messy and needs a cleaning but need to limit the amount of water changed out. At least I have some buffering salts to try this time. If I manage to keep them going then I will try to order a few more gold occelatus to replace the ones I lost.

Thats all my fish keeping stuff going on lately. Been quiet around here anyone else taking on new stock or projects?
