What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Did some cleaning on the 300 after work. Scrubbed a little algae on the glass, pulled out plants and cleaned algae off those. Light gravel vac and water change. Looks a lot better now.

I got a call from an elementary principal in my district asking for help setting up a tank in their office…
I asked her what she was looking for and her response was not too small and not too large. Something large enough for two kids to be able to sit down and look at.
I’m thinking she is probably looking for a 40g, but what do you all think?
I think I’m going to ask for a picture of the space she wants to put it at. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think I’d set up a community tank ( community meaning fish that can get along together but that are also more hearty.

I would think at least a 40 gallon breeder sized 36” long or a standard 55 gallon that is 48”, I guess depending upon the space available. Probably something easy to care for… convict cichlids, lol.

Cyprichromis leptostoma update-

--- The four fry that I rescued after the female spit during transfer to a brooding tank, and then hatched in an egg tumbler, seem to be doing fine. They are still younger than they would have been upon typical release, and still haven't totally mastered equilibrium, but are eating well and doing fine. I hope to transfer them to my C. leptostoma brooding/grow-out 40L in another week or two.

--- The brooding female in the C. leptostoma brooding/grow-out 40L released her fry yesterday; two in the morning, one in the afternoon, one more in the evening. The four new fry joined a school of eight older fry from a previous spawn from a different female. With the other new fry from another female (above), this has the makings of a nice new colony. :)

Been working on aqua scaping my tanks.

I took this large Manzinita branch out of the 65B because it was getting 'fuzzy' all the time.

The tannins are pretty much done but man does this thing stink and it just gets a fuzzy white build up on it after a day or so of being scrubbed down. I put it into my 90 gallon that has my bristlenose pleco to help see if he could keep it cleaned up. It is way over crowded in a lot of tanks right now when it comes to driftwood pieces. I need to probably sell off some of my larger pieces that I dont think I will be using but hard to do when I spent so much money on a few of these pieces.

Took this piece from the one 65B and moved it over to the other 65B as a "lair" for the puffer. I have only seen him use it once...

Im not sure If I want to keep it in there with him or put it back into the other tank and make that a cave for a future red wolf fish. All I know is I hate the constant change ups and like tanks to be a certain way with a natural look and I just am not achieving that with a couple of the tanks at the moment. There needs to be a fish tank makeover show...

Used my “cute” little mini python to gravel vac poo off the surface of the aragonite in the shellie tank, scrubbed algae off glass and did all this with only about 2 1/2 gallons out of tank. Used a elevated bucket and air tubing to refill with new water and one Tablespoon of my Wet Spot Rift salt which is dose for 10 gallons. This should be an easy, light change to water that should not shock any of the fish. Fingers crossed that its a no fish loss water change and cleaning.

Working on other garage tanks this morning.

I am down to 5 tanks in there now…..220,180, 125, 2x75. Shouldn’t take too long tomorrow ( which I’ll have to do as We weren’t able to connect today. Haha)
If you are in my neighborhood (Martin Henry’s or Aquarium Paradise) remember I have that pleco for you. I have a bag if you dont have a bucket with you. Just text me.

Are you rehoming the Rhino?
Not at the moment, I have a smallish gold spot (L001) sailfin about 4 1/2” that I want to rehome.

Im not sure about the Rhino… he is absolutely a beast of a fish but I would want the person who gets him to provide a tank bigger than my 90 and likely a more peaceful tankmate. His trimac tankmate may or may not work with him. So the possibility he gets put with the oscar? Not sure what I want to do with him.

I have been out of town for business the last 2 weeks. Fed a mix of frozen BS and BW. I have a fresh spawn of BNPs(not seeing any albino) and the Sev's are guarding a new clutch as well. I did loose the GB fry but with as regularly as they spawn it won't take long to get more.PXL_20210927_003546326.jpg

I decided to pull the trigger and order 3 Heros Notatus from Dan's Fish in Sheridan,WY. These are listed as tank raised. I did request that he send me fish with the most body spotting possible. Total cost with shipping was $112.45. UPS overnight.

Sold a few endlers, bought a SAE and a couple amano, figure it's time to see if SAE are for me.

Flushed, trimmed, tumbled and reset a few of the planted tanks, they just haven't leveled out the way I would like to see. Can tell winter is coming because fish tanks were pretty much all I wanted to do today.

Oh, and I finally made it to the lumber yard, ordered a pair of heaters, pair of pumps and sponge sheet, grabbed 300 lbs of sand and some other odds and ends so I should be building my new rack this week.

Kind of funny but today I realized that my fish keeping was stressing me out... lol, hear me out. The lack of direction in fish tanks was stressing me out. Now that Ive got many of my 'keepers' established again, Im happy. I did not like having almost all by tanks dedicated as 'grow outs' to get one good looking trimac. As much as I loved the color of having four amphilophus in my 300, I always hated the constant digging and unkept look of the tank along with the thought that any day that fine balance of getting along could be broken. Now with a Pearsei back in the 300 and most trimacs gone I feel a sense of relief. I know, kind of weird, but I like a stability to my fish and the changes from long time fish passing away took away my fun in fish keeping for a bit there.

Loving the 300 and having a pearsei back in the house, along with having another outgoing little hairy puffer again. Having a solid game plan for both 90's with a trimac in one and a Bumblbee Oscar in the other is exciting and then a game plan for my 65B of a red wolf fish is also something Im looking forward to. The 46 gallon bowfront with the simple community fishes is great. So right now my only tank in contention is the little shellie tank, lol. Hopefully a few more replacement fishes and I will be happy with it.

Overall Im glad to have the tanks I have and looking forward to years with this current group of fish.

Stopped at Aquarium Paradise on the way home from work and picked up a few frozen Hikari foods. Clams on the half shell for the puffer, spirulina mysis shrimp, and blood worms for my other fishes. Trying to come up with a variety of foods to get some growth on the new oscar.
