What did you do with your tank(s) today?

...What's in the bag?...

Nanochromis! At first I thought they might be N. transvestitus, but given that the larger fish has the caudal stripes, I'm going to say N. splendens. Either way, I'm jealous! These are awesome fishes; interesting behaviours, not hard to breed if you care for them properly, and always easy to sell. Really, really nice fishes. :thumbsup

Martin Henry's had a local breeder bring in Nanochromis splendens. I hopefully have a pair. I now need to move all of the S. American species out of the 55g so that it can be a true W. African.PXL_20210510_200139074~2.jpg

I cant believe Martin Henry's took in a big dovii... They had that solo red devil forever because people dont expect to go there for cichlids. But Im sure some nut will buy it for his 55 gallon.

These can be delicate. Who will be their tankmates?
Currently, small chocolate cichlid, 4 kribensis, 5 1"ish redhead tapajo, Cory cats. I am going to move the chocolate and tapajo to the 220g once they have more size. Cory cats to either the 120 or the 260.
The chocolate was trying to get at them while they floated in the bag but once released hasn't paid any attention. Kribensis don't seem to notice either.

The sooner the better as far as the Nanochromis are concerned. Neotropical and African cichlids don't speak the same language, which is often the root cause of all kinds of issues. Do you have a smaller tank that you could devote to the Nanochromis and some dithers?

I don't know the first thing about shrimp (except for quite a few recipes), but a 29 without any competition for the bottom would be a happy place for a pair of N. splendens. Pair bond formation in Nanochromis can be testy, but a 29 should give them enough room to get out of each other's way, if necessary, provided you have set it up with lots of hiding places and some distractions, e. g. dithers, like relatively laid-back tetras and such. :thumbsup

I did get time to clean one of the 90’s and clean out an Aquaclear 110 on the 46g bowfront today. A little bit here and there.

Im at a point where Im ready for some changes to my stock... really miss my hairy puffer and the arrowhead puffer just isnt filling that wet pet need. Thinking to rehome that puffer. I have 6 trimac spread over 3 tanks and pretty much know 2 are ready to go and them I need to make some decisions on the other 4. That would be the assumption I would keep and raise the one female and then try to pick among the other 3 males. ugh

Still thinking about a red wolf fish and maybe Cuban cichlids. The female rtm is pretty and a nice wet pet but really wanted a big burly male rtm. Lots of upcoming changes to come....

Fill that 300 with an African Peacock's, now that's a change
Boo! Lol, the 300 is one of the tanks Im happy with. The big community with the midas/red devil, bala sharks, bichirs is super active and the fish all get along pretty well.

That’s something Ive never tried before! Very cool looking cray!
I was shocked when Amazon has Red, White and Blue ones for sale.....

I have read they are escape artists so need to really seal up the lid. But otherwise simple care, bottom feeder foods and blanched veggies.

Weekend water changes to a 90, two 65B’s and one Aquaclear 110 cleaned. Feel guilty when I cant spend time on the tanks but lots of hard core yard work going on so got to spread out the time on multiple projects. All tanks are getting at least a once a week gravel vac with about a 50% water change.

Did my 300 this morning. Gravel vac, glass cleaning and water change. Just three more tanks to go today and I will be done for the weekend.

Passing this info along from my friends in the GSAS...

Dr. Wayne Leibel passed away last weekend. Wayne was a major figure in the American Cichlid Association for many years, and in the world of cichlids in general. There will be a YouTube livestream today at 4 p. m. PDT to celebrate his life at-

There is also an entertaining talk Wayne gave in 2000 on the history of the aquarium hobby in the GSAS video archive, at-
