What did you do with your tank(s) today?

No, I'm on Liberty Bay. Apparently the bay was chock full of native Olympia oysters before the settlers arrived here, and it is a really good habitat for oysters. I'm getting seed survival rates >90% with both diploids and triploids, and the growth rates are phenomenal, ready for harvest in a year. This does have a downside, however: barnacles. Anyone who has a boat moored in Liberty Bay knows that. I figure it's a fair compromise if I can get awesome shellfish like this off the beach. :)

Nice , still very close to me - I haven’t put out oyster bags this year - will have to rely on the kindness of my neighbors, lol.

Just picked up 2 high fin sharks today - been wanting to keep them for awhile. I remember when they were first being imported 30+ years ago and how expensive they were.

anyway kept them?

Took a couple days off and did some extra tank work. My 75 gallon midas growout tank has been a bit of a pain. I hadn’t accounted for the sun that this tank gets in the garage by the window. Even with blinds, enough light comes through that this tank gets a high level of algae growth. A couple extra cleanings this week has it looking good.

I replaced the 250 watt heater in that tank with 150 watt and it seems fine so another is on order for the other 75 gallon. I really like these Eheim Thermocontrol-e heaters. They keep the tank temp perfect and dont get hot. Changing the heater out also looks better with a much smaller heater in the tank now. The 250’s will go into my back up box for future emergencies. This was the one thing I didnt have a back up for and now I do.

Had an interesting experience today. My growout midas group dart to the surface to feed. I end up wet from their splashing oftentimes. Today one of them overestimated the dart distance and ended up flying out of the tank. It landed on the carpet and flopped a bit but I got it back into the tank pretty quick and it seemed fine. Ive never had a jumper due to excitement for food.

I have that all the time, and have to be really careful closing the lids quickly when I feed the fishes. It's particularly bad with Cyprichromis and Tropheus. :sick

I have the occasional jumper - I lost a jardini through a crack that was smaller than him - he was about 20 + inches when that happened. No idea why he jumped since he was the dominant fish in the tank. Also, 4 years ago when I first got this L24 I found him out of the tank - again through a crack smaller than the fish. He lost his bottom trailer but it grew back nicely. He’s about 18 inches I’d guess.

Battling my Trimac at the moment. Introducing it to new foods, so a battle of wills begins, lol. This guy was being fed Omega One Cichlid pellets and I decided to switch him up to the NLS and Dainichi that my other fish all eat. He is not happy to say the least.

Take him off feed for a few days so he is good and hungry.

Ive fed him a couple pellets at a time of the new stuff and he turns his nose up at it in front of me but when I come back later the pellets are gone. He is eating but on a much lighter schedule right now.

I lost 2 of my yo-yo loaches due to jumpers. Aggression not feeding excitement. Had to separate the last two. Unlike clown loaches that thrive on community these guys hate each other. I was hoping that with a group of 4 and a candy stripe they would work.

Ive had the odd jumper due to being spooked or aggression related too. Was my first feeding frenzy jumper. Even when I had my silver dollars I never had a jumper and they are very excited feeders. Pretty close to done with the growouts at this point. Need to move over the 2 keepers into the 300 and rehome the 5 midas that are left.

My Cory cats breach and bounce off the lids regularly when they come up to grab an air bubble.
My largest tapajo is finally confident enough he rises to the surface at feeding time.

Dimensions are 96 by 30 by 30

I’m not sure if it is replacing my 155 bow front and 120 or adding to the chaos. I had to negotiate and say I was getting rid of at least the 120 to get the blessing to pick it up but I’m looking around the fish room and I’m not sure I can fit it and either of those tanks. The two 6 foot by 5 foot tanks take up a lot of space, lol.

Sounds like a cat; they have 'fussy eater' down to a fine art. These two girls are twins, and they make feeding time an adventure each and every day.
