What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Plecos doing a great job. The wood looks a lot cleaner. Sadly lost one of the albino, upon closer examination saw it had a deformed side fin and something was just a bit “off” about its head shape. Was the littlest one and really hard to see. The others all look healthy and happy.

I’m sorry but our DOA policy only extended to the front door. Any claims needed to be pursued prior to that point. We are unable to process said claim any further. We hope you are happy with our products and give us a five star rating. Please come again. :rofl

Let me know if you would like a replacement.

lol, no replacement needed. Just felt bad for the little guy. Those things happen. There was a guy on MFK that said he had a two headed one born. There were some pics but not very clear, and at this point if it lived it would be quite a bit bigger.

These kinds of things happen. Somatic deformities are not uncommon amongst mouthbrooders, especially in large broods that are crowded into the buccal cavity. Because these are not genetic defects that get passed on, I never cull fish that have cosmetic defects, and curiously enough, some of these fishes have turned out to be my best breeders. I remember in particular one Ophthalmotilapia nasuta 'Magara' Green Tiger female with a deformed tail that produced many fry: they were all fine, and I still have some of her progeny. :)

Piles upon piles of pleco poo :poo:poo:poo

Been doing a light hose vac each morning and afternoon to keep it in check. The driftwood is almost spotless! They are doing a wonderful job keeping it clean.

I heard there's some kind of suckerfish you could buy that eats poop. :p:rolleyes: haha
but seriously you could also put some Java moss in there to soak up the nitrates so you don't have to vac too often

I wont keep them all in the same tanks so that will help things out. But I am impressed how clean the wood is in there. I used to have a big Rhino pleco in the 300 and I rehomed it when I decided to get into bichirs. Soon after I realized how much cleaning it did when all the mopani started turning green. Even though it was a poop machine, it did keep the wood pieces clean.

I did water changes for most tanks this morning after a bike ride.

Moved the severum (and a leopard bushfish I had completely forgotten about) to the 210 and rearranged some decor! So far so good. Will observe how they interact in the coming days.

Rare sighting of the Jaguar cat! I put him on a diet and I am happy to say it was successful (belly was previously dragging on bottom).

Met up with some buyers to sell plants, a filter and air pump.

Got home and started the puffer proofing of the heater cable. I bought some 6mm spiral wire wrap. It fit perfectly on the wire.

IMG_20200619_170800745.jpgOnly thing that bothers me is that the heater says to put it horizontal which exposes a lot of the cord.... Im thinking of wraping a plastic plant around it too. This might make it even less appealing to the puffer.

Looks good! What I’ve done in the past is route the cord through PVC pipe painted black to blend with the background. So you can still keep the heater body horizontal...

Water change on the 29g planted. Skimmed off the floating plants and dumped them in with the SD for them to snack on. Culled some of the throw back guppies. Added them to the 90g and they didn’t even have a chance.
Trying to decide if I should trim the dwarf sag jungle.

PEA PUFFERS!! Might be a pair. One is definitely a male. He has the eye wrinkles and the belly stripe.

Play some “mood music” for the pea puffers, a little Barry White and then you will have lots of little baby puffers

Pea puffers are already “cute”, I can imagine the cuteness factor has to be turned up 100% for the babies.

Spent the day doing yard work, repairing some sprinkler heads so not very much fish time. I did clean the Trimac tank and the baby pleco tank in the garage.

I have researched spawning them in the aquarium. I do have a 5g I could move them into.

The basics from what Ive read, is that you need a densely planted spot and they lay eggs in it and then pull the parents and let eggs hatch... Is it that easy? lol, I guess they do sort of figure it out on their own. :wink

It might be fun to breed some pea puffers. Are you going to encourage it? lighting, mood music... :whistle
