What did you do with your tank(s) today?

I know I fed fish today lol Wife and kiddo have whatever plague is going around. So I've been busy back and forth between the two with water, tea, broth etc... I'm tired and pretty sure I missed yesterday and probably the day before.

I did treats for the fish yesterday with frozen foods being fed to all the garage tanks. On the menu was spirulina mysis shrimp, krill and a silverside for the puffer. I need to stop by the store and stock back up on some of these foods, only have frozen brine shrimp and silversides in the freezer currently. I try to offer the treat foods once a week and pretty much pellet feed the rest of the time.

Hoping to get the kiddo over to the park today for his physical activity part of class. Let him blow off some energy while I collect microfauna from the vernal pond to top up the indoor cultures and start a couple more outdoor cultures. I want to move my sticklebacks outside this year.

Pretty sure it's a flu of some variety. That's what they told my wife. I got over it a few weeks ago. Hers lingered and turned into an upeeer respiratory infection.

Got my Dr. Bassleer fish food in yesterday. This time the correct XXL size to use with the goldies. I love ordering from Super Chichlids because they always have a personalized thank you note, give a swedish fish candy for you and give multiple sample fish foods to try out.

Kiddo is finally feeling better. Actually ate dinner and had seconds later. Hopefully I can get him out today and scoop the ponds. He was more interested in doing that than playing on the playground there :)

Not sure why, but changing the mix of goldfish seems to be a good thing. Keeping the ranchu/lionchu together seems to have a higher level of activity and putting the orandas all together seems to have calmed them down. This was what I was hoping for but didnt think it would have been that simple.

The last one was lionchu?

My son had the same thing. He is all better now, going to park and I am down. Right now remembering to feed the fish is big achievement to me.

The mix is one Ranchu, 2 Lionchu, and my dragon eye pearlscale. My understanding is that the 'Lionchu' is supposed to be a mix of Lionhead and Ranchu. Basically a Ranchu in body shape with a larger head (wen) like on a Lionhead.

I meant to ask what this guy was. I assume that's lionchu.

Calico fish is a ranchu, the other two red and white are considered the lionchu and then there is the dragon eye pearlscale.

A bit of stocking up on fish food. Purchased New Life Spectrum Goldfish and a container of the Kenta (a bloat prevention food). The kentafeed product is supposed to help the goldfish not have swim related issues. Not sure if it really works, but not taking a chance and have had it in their diet from the beginning. I mix it in with their staple pellets and that only needs to be at 1/4 of the Kenta to 3/4 of the reguler (sinking) pellets. Been using up some NLS Probiotix on the goldies too. This one was a bit weird because, though called a 'sinking' pellet, it has more buoyancy than other nls sinking pellets.

Noticed one of the pumps for the 260g wasn't blowing bubbles at the tank return. Unplugged it and pulled it out of the sump and could feel something squishy in the intake. Looked like a fish. Thankfully, just a small piece of foam and a rock. I think the rock has been in the pump since I set up the tank. The previous owner used red landscape volcanic rock in the sump and a piece must have been overlooked. That pump produces some serious flow now.

Well, water can only get so cold lol Still had an air gap under the ice from the bubbler. Gave all the ponds a whack with the pick axe so the birds and squirrels can drink.
Edit: The main goal is to keep the water in the pond. In that case it's a success. I really want to do a trough heater at some point, but I need to calculate the energy use. Additionally, that's a gateway drug to outdoor Endlers year round / garage keeping lol I don't want to see that the numbers are reasonable lol

Finally lol Got a lot of different microfauna. Had a "strange" encounter. Guy walking his dog asked if I was trying to catch fish. I explained I was catching daphnia and such to feed my fish and that only tadpoles and stuff are in here.
He says "No, there are small fish in there that bury themselves in the mud. I've lived here ten years, they're not tadpoles they're fish"
Now, I've never seen nor netted any fish there. I don't know if people might have dumped some but the burying in the mud part makes me wonder if he actually saw that. If so, are mudminnows maybe in this vernal pond somehow? I have a new obsession for the year now lol.

That's what I was wondering. Outside of known locations. Was thinking skulpins as well. But it's time to make some traps lol
