What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Tracking on my Ken's order says it should get delivered today, will see if that happens, lol. New heater for the 65B red wolf tank and some food coming in. Had been mixing the Dr. Bassleer foods in on my goldies. Cant say I noticed a difference but I try to mix up the food a bit. I had been getting the XXL pellets but felt it was a bit big for the goldfish so I am trying the XL pellet this time. The normal diet for my fish has a mix of NLS goldfish & Algaemax, Hikari, and a "special" food by Kenta to prevent swim bladder related issues. They also get frozen brine and mysis shrimp in their diet too.

For fun I put a little frozen brine shrimp in with the new goldie last night and he devoured it all. So this morning he got some Saki Hikari pellets which he was munching on when I left for work this morning. You wouldn't even know he had just come in after a long shipping ordeal.
Have you tried northfin goldfish food? I was looking at it briefly when I was thinking about putting goldfish in 40 gallons.

I use Northfin Jumbo 6mm sinking and the floating tropical sticks in my 300 gallon mix of foods. Ive used them for years and have no issues with those two formulas. I just haven't done a ton of research on it yet to see if I want to add Northfin to the goldies. I had used their kelp wafers in the past and hated that sometime the wafer just would not sink and that the pleco poop would float after they ate the food. So a little research before I do Northfin for the goldfish formula.

I had mentioned that the box the new goldfish was shipped in was a bit different. Best way to describe it is that it has a ridged styrofoam core with a paper outer coating that makes it look like a traditional box and then the entire inside had a reflective foil on it. A bit of a close up so you can see what I mean.

Then there were the double insulated bags that the fish was wrapped in.

Another shot for perspective

Had not seen this before. Seemed pretty high-tech. Though I wonder why they said they didn’t do heat pack for safety reasons? Seems like they could have done it without an issue. Oh well, fish arrived safe. Just wanted to share this unusual shipping box.

Edit to add what their previous shipping box was like. New set up was quite different.

Got my Ken's order in yesterday, did not get new heater set up yet but spent time on the goldies of course. Very messy fish so it was the second gravel vac and water change for the week on each of the bigger tanks and did a water change on the new fish in QT tank. The new fish is eating very well now with all the pellets I feed to the others being taken and frozen brine shrimp. Will keep him in quarantine for a minimum of 10 days and see how it looks from there. As to the vendor, I asked about getting a shipping credit of some sort and he said he would look into it. Pretty sure nothing will come from that but he also threw in a 10% off coupon for future use. Never hurts to ask.

Ordered a small, single cypress knee fro Universal Rocks to go along with the other piece I recently ordered. Just seems like it needed to be added to break up the symmetry of the other piece.

Its pretty small but I think it will be what I need. Looking to find some short foreground plants (plastic) that are decent looking too.

Had to clean Aquaclear filters… of course on the goldfish tanks. Did the solo filter on the 65B and one of the two on the 90g. Also water change in the quarantine tank. The new goldfish looks good and is eating well. My new red wolf is also doing well, super interactive when it comes feeding time. I fed it some shrimp bits last night before I cooked them up for dinner. Eats like a champ and have noticed considerable growth already.

That's dedication, when you feed your fishes first, then eat the leftovers for dinner...

I'm really liking the AC potassium in the small bottle. Adding 2.5 doses every other day to my 6 gal, and while the many java ferns and the one buce are still relatively small and slow growing, the tiger lotus and water sprite are big.

Sai (betta) has started developing pigment cell tumors on his sides, which I researched for a few hours the other day. They're benign and usually don't affect the lifespan unless they grow in inconvenient places like the mouth, and can be scraped off with a Qtip or by another fish. Parona (garra) may even decide to try and nom them. She and he have gotten into a mutual annoy/chase relationship, sometimes initiated by him, sometimes by her, but since they're both not incredibly aggressive and have spots to retreat to it hasn't resulted in injuries - even when she gave his pec a firm tug a couple weeks ago to tell him 'enough'. The Minions (blue rasboras) have also become shiny blue braver adults who come forward to check me out when I'm over there.

--MS

P.S - Dunno why but I couldn't come up with the words 'play tag'...which is what they actually are doing. One will 'tag' the other until the other gives chase. The exception being that Sai does not like Parona in his favorite floating log and chases her out every time.

lol, I realized my wording gave the wrong impression :rofl

For some clarification, I shared my dinner shrimp with my fish. A few little pieces are all they got. And I did not gutload my fish to eat.

Been seriously thinking of moving my goldfish around. While the ranchu can get big, I feel like they are smaller than my varieties of oranda and that I might do better with all the 'big boys' on the 90 gallon with the two Aquaclear 110' and then the smaller ranchu in the 65B with the single Aquaclear 110. Im thinking the change will happen when I am ready to put the fish from quarantine in with its tank mates. Then I would move the large panda oranda from the 65B into the 90, and the two lionchu from the 90 into the 65B at the same time. Still a good week out before the change out.

Just a goldfish update, they are messy…

Had to do big water change on the 20H quarantine tank, because the water was getting funky. Pretty much an everyday other day occurrence with the big fish in the small tank.

I recently bought some Dr. Bassleer fish food and I forgot that the XL sized pellets are pretty small. Had intended to use it to feed my goldfish but now find that due to the small pellet size I will feed to my community tank with my rainbows and hoplo cats. I had specifically started the food thread and posted pics about the pellet sizes and then I didnt look at the post and ordered the same pellet size I complained about in the past! lol. What I need from the Dr Bassleer line is the XXL pellets for the goldfish. They are just a hair too big but at least they dont sink into the substrate and create a mess from not getting eaten.

Dr bassler’s is crazy small compared to other brands!

I really need a XXXL size for my large cichlids which a company like hikari would probably just call “large”.

I was looking at Supercichlids.com and they have the 3XL Bassleer back in stock in the 'Regular' and 'Green' formulas. Ive used these pellets before and they are then the other way and are kind of freakishly too big, more like a 'monster sized' lol
