What did you do with your tank(s) today?

But it’s only a couple years old!?
Ive had it for only about 3 years but it was already pretty big when I got it. Not a super fast grower so I would guess already a couple years old. It does seem to be acting as if its old and starting to go… this is based off fish Ive had that passed due to age but most of those were closer to 9 or 10 years old. Online it says the red wolf should live at least 8-10 years and it does seem like this one should still have some years ahead but again it is acting old.

@fishguy1978, I know the fish has suffered trauma at least twice in its life with the eye injury and the one time it decided to go towards the Python gravel vac and was sucked up the tube and got stuck. These events may have shortened lifespan a bit too. I do regular 50% water changes weekly on him. His diet is Hikari Massivore and various frozen fish treats so I feel as his nutrition is decent. I know he never really bounced back well from the gravel vac tube incident. Maybe his odd behavior is the norm and I still have a few years with him? Hard to tell...

I fed 4 raw shrimp to the aro last night. I’m always amazed at how big a mouth they have.
Feel the same way about some of the goldfish. The big black male will suck in a half dozen pellets in a bite.

Pond stuff is all printed, well mostly. You see, I found a file to print out a goldfish with a water spout in its mouth..... lol
And I just got this fun multiple color filament to play with. Assuming it prints well, I might order an orange roll to print the water feature out :)

140 looks like it fits, but the tail tip and lips just overhang the board.

Of course they're all out of orange for some strange reason lol

I hate when I wake up early on my day off and cant get back to sleep. Used time for some early morning water changes.

Worked on my filter mod. Took a Penguin 200 and installed the refillable media cartridge and then replace the disposable cartridges with Aquaclear 70 sponges trimmed down to fit the cavity.

Took the etra pieces and filled in the overflow area so there should be no bypass

This is for my 20H qt/hospital tank.

Pretty much what I do. I can pull them out, give a squeeze and rinse then back in. Makes harvesting plant food easy :) Great material for plant roots top of you keep pothos, spider plants etc....

Morning water changes, filter cleaning, filter modifications and other fish chores. Moved the light from being suspended above the goldfish tank to directly on top. I like how the fish look with the light this way. I might move the light back on top of the tank on the other 65B.

This evening I ordered another goldfish. Finally have a SHOGUN oranda on the way!

You see a lot of YouTube videos of people going to Japan to pick out Koi, but never goldfish for some reason....lol

If I had absurd levels of basically pocket money, I'd fly over and tour all the old breeders shops. Secretly buy all my fish then the next video is about the ancient goldfish strain I got that was only kept by royalty. The basic aquarium goldfish lol Just to chuckle lol

"Gary" (nieces and nephews pick) is doing well and eating lots of fruit flies :)

In the past couple months of me being into goldfish I have been looking at tons of different vendors and types of goldfish and am finding very few Japanese varieties. Seems all the ones on the market are either Chinese based or Thai Oranda. Lots of videos of visits to various Thai goldfish farms.

Really need to scrape the sorority tank again. Cories eat all the small ramshorns :(
But I've been working on a surprise for the kiddo lol He has several Tripods that don't fit any of his blasters. So I made an adapter:) and his missing ammo belt.

Hoping to maybe get the pond filter taken down and at least stuffed in the shed for now. Doubt I want to stick my hands in freezing cold water to flush the substrate lol But it would be nice to at least start laying out the new filter pieces. But baby it's cold outside lol
There, it's officially the worst time of the year to be in a store or work setting or listening to the radio lol

I need to rethink my filter mod... I followed someone elses mod and now Im seeing problems.

The solid sponges add to much back pressure on the impeller and forces you to add a small chunk of filter material because it will go out the overflow groove next to the intake tube. So I need to make the sponge in the chamber thinner so it can flow more freely of use a sponge that is not as dense. In the past I found a refillable frame that you could cut media to fit. For now Im using the filter cartridge that came with the filter and the additional refillable media cartridge. Still working on a solution

Definitely should not be here, but might consider cutting the main a bit different. Longer across the top heading into the "Should not be here" a bit, but allowing the water to flow into the bottom a bit then come up into the filter and out.
Kind of T shape so to speak leaving a gap at the bottom. If you have bio balls or some lava rock lying around, that open bottom space is a great place for them.

Im trying to see it I can find how the water flows through the filter, but no online diagrams on that so far. With cartridge installed there is a big gap in front of and in back of cartridge and no back pressure to cause excess water to run out the overflow groove. I need to make the sponge thinner of get a more porous open sponge.

Sponge porosity is huge. My first attempts were definitely too thick. I use those for planter baskets at least. I went through a few different trimmed to size pads before I found a good flow. One of the filters has two chambers before the outlet and one past it which has three different porosity filters. First light, then medium then a dense one at the far end with some lucky bamboo that came in an unlucky number lol

Quick water change after finding Ryan, my kubotai, belly up; put in a pleco cave for Parona (garra) yesterday because she's outgrown all of her other nighttime hidey-holes and has been knocking the driftwood askew, which of course stressed everybody out. Also caused a nitrite spike (ammonia tests fine), but after dumping in Prime and Quick Start in I'm not worried.

Resetting timers again lol
I did seven different ones already but havent done the two timers on my 300 gallon tank. I wish they were all as easy as my Fluval light on my Flex tank. That thing is bluetooth and I have it hooked up to my tablet and change change intensity and times from the app. Finally technology put to good use.

Eagerly waiting on fish to come in today. Hate the fake tracking, UPS says 10:45 to 2:45 at the moment. Usually closer to the time it will update and say before 10pm and I will see it around 5:30-6.
