What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Well, if you're thinking cichlid, how about Cryptoheros sajica? Super nice fishes.

Yes, beautiful fish. I had a breeding pair years back from rapps that were sold to me as wild caught. Unfortunately, I couldn’t even give the fry away as everyone thought the fry looked like dull convicts .
Amazing fish but also feisty during spawning

An interesting development in my pearsei personality… it stopped eating algae wafers, that just months ago were a favorite treat. It also does not eat sinking foods or anything off the bottom in general. It likes its floating pellets and thats what it eats, lol. The floating mix is NLS, Omega One and Fluval Bug Bites cichlid pellets. Does not seem to care what brand it is as long as it’s floating food.

I think a pair is best, and the good news is that they pair up easily. I've never tried keeping more than one pair together; perhaps @lloyd378 has experience with this? :)

Pulled most of the rock out of the 60g cube and redid the rock pile. I added the 3 swordtails. I'm undecided on what I want to do with the stock in that tank. I might move the cory cats over or I might stick with the original plan of moving the N. Splendens to the 60g.
Planning on picking up a group of 7-8 stripped and spotted raphaels tomorrow for the 120g.

I did more than one pair in my 5’ 125g and found that the territorial behaviors became more aggressive in nature with fry ( obviously), but the male of the pair with fry would charge and bite the others on the other side of the tank.

Interesting enough, they seems to not be too bothered by the silver dollars I had in there with them. I think it might be conspecific aggression as opposed to hyperactively defending their territory.

I think that's exactly right, although I would bet that other cichlids would also be targets during fry rearing. Things like silver dollars, rainbow fish, SAEs, and such seem hardly recognized as fishes by most cichlids, and are ignored. That's a good thing. :)

Moved 1dozen rainbow cichlids and 4 Severus out of the fish room. Picked up a 5th flagtail porthole, 2 more ninja cats and some blue dreams shrimp.
I was able to trade plants with @whatthebloody so I now have some very nice crypt spiralis and some others that we both were unsure of. His nano tanks are amazing.PXL_20220212_234554507.jpgPXL_20220212_234323543.jpg

Did a little stopping in at different stores over the weekend. Nothing new really. Petco in Lakewood started to carry a new tank size on the shelf, a 60 gallon breeder. This ix a 48x18 base but only like 16” tall. Kind of unique tank, but really wasnt that much cheaper than a 75 so lm not sure how well they will sell.

Also went out to Tropical Fish World in Bonney Lake. Nothing impressive about the fish, same old stuff. But I am always amazed at the tanks they carry and that they really work on keeping the price reasonable.

I wish I had known about those tanks when I did my fish room upgrade last year; I would have been very tempted to replace my four lower-level 40L tanks (48 x 12 x 16") with the 60B's. Probably just as well, though, as the lower tanks on the racks are a bit of a pain to service.

I actually like the overall dimensions of the tank, and at ~25% less than a 75, I can well imagine them being attractive for small fish, community tank setups where front-to-back width is more important that height, for example, dwarf cichlids. :)

I have been working on a 55 gallon for the office at my wife’s school ( she’s the VP)….. I repainted the stand and today I got to spend school money buying all of the supplies for it! Even though I rinsed the gravel a good amount, there was still a ton of dust in it. I will go back in Monday, do a water change and then probably add some guppies to start it out. Of course I already seeded the tank with used media from my personal tanks ( some in the filter and some I just left floating in the tank.

They are hopeful this will calm students and parents when they come into the office!

Side note: the tank and stand were donated to the school so I went and picked it up a month back and slowly worked on getting everything operational as well as checking the tank for leaks.
