Cyprichromis leptostoma 'Kerenge' brooding tank update- Last week I moved 3 brooding females and 1 non-brooding female from a 125 into a 40L, and a few days later the first brooding female released 4 fry. Today the second brooding female released 7 fry, but this was just a partial release, as she still clearly has more fry in her mouth, which she will probably release tomorrow. The third brooding female looks to be close to release as well. I'm surprised at how many fry these young females are producing, as they are still quite small, but happy to have so many young ones to distribute throughout my fish room. I also have ~15 fry from two other females that are now a couple of months old, and finally starting to put on some size.

On a related note, the 15 Cyprichromis leptosoma 'Mpimbwe' ('Tri-color Black Bee') that I ordered last week should arrive on Wednesday. So an exciting week in my Cyp world. :)

Meanwhile... the hits just keep on coming...

I had another Cyprichromis spawning in the main tank tonight; got to see part of it. It's really amazing how fearless the Cyp males are when spawning: I watched a young Cyp male (~2.5" TL) chase off a full grown WC Ophthalmotilapia nasuta kipili Gold male (~4.5") who must outweigh him by 10:1. I don't know of any other mouthbrooders that spawn in the open water column, and it's pretty spectacular.

Took a quick trip up to Manufacturers minerals in Renton to get 400lbs of Lapis Lustre Sand. I will be cleaning the mix out of the 60g cube and clearing the Ozark/chinook mix out of the 260g.The plan is to have only sand in the tanks going forward so that it will be more catfish, geo, digger friendly. Need to move the N. splendons to the 60g once it is rescaped too.

Brought in the 5x G. Braselius ( spelling?) and the 1x blue sev to my larger classroom tank to go with my two baby Oscar’s. Obviously these aren’t going to be in this tank long term as they will all outgrow it, but it’s a cool mix for now and up till spring break.
I’d still like to grab some guppies for my 20g planted tank I have in the other corner of my classroom. You will have to zoom in on the fish tank to see any of the fish….

Been busy with helping my son sell off his car so not a lot of fish time this past two weeks. But now its done and I can get back to the fish. I still need to do water changes on a couple garage tanks since I missed them over the weekend.

Made a visit to PetWorks, Oly and they have Ninja woodcats but man are they expensive. The upside is that they asked me to bring them 2-3 dozen multies. Love me some store credit. They might also be slashing the prices on their stock of L. Tang fish as no one is purchasing them. If I'm able to remove 3 dozen multies from the tank, PW has J. Regani and a nice looking black calvus too.

J. regani are very pretty fishes, but you'll not want to mix different Julidochromis species in the same tank because- (1) you will likely get interspecific hybrids, and (2) one species will invariably come to dominate and stress out the other. :(

If I'm able to get the regani they will go in the 100g with the multies to avoid hybrids and they get larger too. Iirc

Sold 2 dozen multies and picked up 3 J. Regani and a mini orca catfish (Centromochlus musaicus). PetWorks has some 1/2in multies from some other distributor that they paid way to much for and will have a hard time selling at $20ea especially now that they have adults that are local raised.
