What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Pure species run from 1500-2500 we got both of our mixed for 800 but we did have to fly to boise to pick them up, so add about 150-180 to the 800

You got both of those beautiful kitties for $800? Thats awesome.

My Ragdolls came from one of the top West Coast breeders. This little Doll won all kinds of TICA awards, and was crazy expensive. Worth every penny. :)

I went and picked up two wild caught Oscar’s for my classroom tank today ( I’ll bring them in once school gets back in session in a few weeks).

they were crazy shy at Aquarium paradise but are already eating pellets at my house. Maybe I should have waited, as he told me he was getting in some wild caught bumblebee Oscar’s next week. Oh well, if I like them more, maybe I’ll get a third and then turn either my 280 or my 220 into an Oscar tank. Haha

these pics are from 15 minutes of being in my tank!

Spent morning cleaning lower garage tanks that required the python to gravel vac. Nothing exciting…

Spent afternoon upsetting my Oscar, lol. Ever since the move into the 90 with the dark substrate he has been super dark. The cool yellow banding was almost non existent. So I pulled out all the dark and put in some lighter stuff. Well I didnt have quite enough to cover the bottom of the tank very deep so its just a thin change over for now. Need to stop and buy about 10 pounds to look good.

Stopped at Aquarium Paradise and bought a 20lb bag of my Peace River sand to finish up the Oscar tank. Used About half the bag. This tank has a mix with the slightly larger Rio Grande and I like the look. It is exactly the same color but now with the mix it seems a lot more natural as opposed to all the same size. Waiting for water to clear and then I need to rethink the decor next.

Caught a quick pic of my wolf fish…. He doesn’t like my phone so hides anytime I bring it out. He is super curios of me and watches me anytime I walk through the room and almost stalks me from side to side but while also being hidden in the live plants.

mat some point I’ll get you all a full body pic of it .

Just curious how you guys change water without freezing the fish, now that it's cold, my tap is in the 40's.
I use a temperature controller plumbed in under one of my sinks that runs through a food grade 3/4" hose to my tanks when I do maintenance. Not worried about the hot water heater causing me any issues (and cannot be swayed into worrying about it) so I just set the knob and fill the tanks. Personally I do deep water changes 50% or more, but if you only do 25%; 40 degree source water would only chill 80 down to 68-70, and your heaters would probably get it right back up there.

Well, to present a somewhat different perspective, as they say...

All my tanks run at 78-80°, so I mix the hot and cold water at the (laundry room) tap so the water coming out of my fill hose (marine/RV grade, drinking water safe) is at 80°. I have an in-line thermometer near the outlet so I can monitor the temperature in real time as the tanks fill. This may sound excessive, but the temperature of Lake Tanganyika is remarkably constant, even seasonally, so Tanganyikan fishes are poorly equipped to deal with fluctuations in water temperature, which can result in all kinds of stress-related issues.
