Drain and fill water change on the 300 this morning. No cleaning or anything just fresh water.

Did a cleaning/water change on the shellie tank. Treated with the buffer salts and all is well… no dead fish. Seems like the reduced light has slowed the algae growth but if by the end of the week it gets built up then Im going to reduce the light even more.

My tanks get 8 hours of 6500K light with the Beamswork fixtures set at 10%, plus 14 hours of 100% actinic light. Plenty of light for the Anubias and Cryptocorynes, with relatively little (by my standards) algae growth in the pH9 water.

With my lighting I have the Shellie tank at 1 (out of 10) on the full spectrum I think its at about 9 to 10 hours which I think may be just about right. My larger tanks are all set at like 4 (out of 10) with maybe 12 hrs on and have very minimal algae growth. Im tempted to swap fixtures between my 46g bow front and the 30 gallon Shellie tank. Even at the 1 setting the 30 seems very bight. I actually wonder if there is something wrong with the fixture. Anyway, Im watching it on the 30 and seeing if the reduced intensity and duration has cut back on the algae growth. If not Im going to see about shaving another hour off.

I had renewed my Craiglist ad for the trimac and I get a response yet again from the old Asian lady... "Ok please send me your address can I pick up tomorrow". I kindly responded "No thank you". Like Ive said before, I feel like Im being punked, but Ive talked to the old lady on the phone so I know its real. lol

Maybe I should change the ad to say "If your name is J**** T*** dont bother, the answer is NO!"

Just fed the fish tonight… but it was treat night for the garage and they got frozen mysis shrimp. Fun to watch the excitement of the feeding frenzy.

Following a lead to acquire a group of one of my holy grail fishes- Xenotilapia papilio Tembwe, another biparental mouthbrooder. These fishes have subtly herterocercal caudal fins, which are also seen in a few other biparental Xenotilapia species.

Anyone ordering from tangled up in cichlids anytime soon? I’d like to jump in and split shipping costs

A little cleaning in the 300 after work. Scrubbed the glass, gravel vac’d and put in fresh water. I still want to detail it a bit more but at least I can look at it now and not cringe, lol.

But tuic had some nice west African cichlids I’d like. Haha
For a while they were the only ones with the bumblebee oscar until Wet Spot got in theirs… TUIC has all kinds of stuff I want but no tank space at the moment, lol

Was doing my night feedings and dropped in an algae wafer into the oscar tank since there is a pleco in there and that greedy little ocsar had got it. Was carrying it around the tank, looked like a dog with a frisbee, lol.

I'd be interested in tuic in about a month. After my move.
Sounds good…. Let’s see how it plays out and if they still have the five spot jewels available….

he is not calling them the standard hemichromis elongatus sp. ayatto River and instead calling them hemichromis camerounensis “Nigeria”

I’ve checked a couple of hobbyist who have suggested that the names are interchangeable
