My fancy goldfish tank(s)

A few posts back there were some update pics of all the goldies and they are all looking very healthy including the Ranchu in time out (quarantine). I am at the higher salt dose and will run that till this upcoming Sunday and then will begin the slow dilution back to freshwater. Really looks as if the weird swollen spots are gone for good and the hope is in two weeks the fish will go into the 65B permanent home.
Been a long road with this one, but he is looking really good. Though not a perfect 'milk cow' he has a lot of good features like the large black blocks, a nice round belly, decent spinal curve and a good angle with the tail. A little less orange, smaller sized tail and he would be much closer to the ideal 'milk cow' but for the price I got him for, he is a looker.

I'm curious- who decides what is 'ideal'? In the cat world, it's the associations (TICA and CFA) that set breed standards and run shows, and those standards are largely arbitrary and change over time, according to fashion. For example, there are no size standards for breeds like Persians or Ragdolls, but the big kitties seem to win more often than not. My adult Ragdolls all came from a cattery that produced championship kitties, but they tended to be small, with females ~10 pounds, and males perhaps 15 pounds. My new kittens are from a different cattery, and all 3 of them are already 8 pounds at 5 months old, so they are going to be big kitties. Really doesn't matter to me, one way or another.
For me the ranchu is a pet and not a competition fish but I do try and look for the favorable traits common to a champion. I dont know who in the goldfish world sets the standards.... I guess I will need to learn some foreign languages (likely Chinese and Thai since these seem the most common areas of goldfish breeding now) to be able to research more, lol
