Xenotilapia spilopterus Mabilibili, a biparental mouthbrooder from Lake Tanganyika. This is a sandy biotope species, but unlike many Xenotilapia, which live mostly on the sand floor, this is an open water species. They are very active, which makes them difficult to photograph, especially in a hyperkinetic tank like this-

The actinic lights have washed out the sparkles on the flanks in this image; they show up better in this pic (not mine), which looks more like real-life-

Today is a two picture day, I woke to find my hairy puffer dead. I had her for 6 years and 10 months. Seems a short lifespan to me but she was an awesome wet pet. This was from her younger days.
