What did you do with your tank(s) today?

@lloyd378, have you tried that Hikari blood-red parrot food on those jewels? Wondering if it would increase the intensity even more?

Did the jewels end up giving you a viable batch? That is really cool, a bucket list item for me, to breed a fish from eggs. Ive had live bearers before but never did the from egg thing yet. I should get a breeding pair of convicts, just to check that off my list, lol.
They moved all of the eggs off of the log and placed them in a pit Im guessing in a few days I should see some fry.... and no I haven’t tried hikari with them yet

Here is the trimac now.... the black vertical line is almost gone ( has about 1/4 of it left) but the white spot on the tail is healing. His fins and tail are also healing from his first night when my jewels took cheap shots at him!

Well, I suppose it's Darwinian in one sense, but still, that is nasty! There are quite a few Tanganyikans that practice 'cooperative breeding,' wherein larger juveniles actually take care of smaller ones. You can see this happening in aquaria, most commonly with larger fry from a breeding pair that looking after smaller ones. That is also Darwinian, but in an entirely different sense. I have a 40L of Julidochromis ornatus that have been breeding cooperatively for a while. Nice.

@lloyd378, the trimac must be happy with you if that stripe is lighting up. Not a lot of info on black stripe syndrome, and what little I found was by can you guess? Dr. Bassleer who is behind the food you started using. This tempts me to try it myself.

As to the tail spot, the fuzzy does go away but little bumps will remain. Apparently stress exasperated the spots. Again dont know what stresses that fish out in my fishroom but something does.

Today's agenda for tanks, nothing... just feeding.
I used to do both tanks water changes on the same day. Since plans are to add a third tank I am switching it over to a tank a day. Today is the still at the store tank day, tomorrow is Caspers.
A blast from the past from Casper

This is the biggest his forehead ever got. It's when he first meet a batch of females I got from COTA.

Sadly it didn't work out. Outright rejected two of them. Looked promising on the third.20190707_162846.jpg
Till I woke up from a nap one day and somehow he managed to get thru the divider and sadly killed her.

@Sean Talkington, Were you looking to do another 125 set up? What plans do you have for this new tank?
Yeah, well good luck with that at the moment. The Aqueon 125 Ensemble that I like so well has suddenly disappeared, just when I was thinking about maybe one more (after the 2 x 75 project). I'd be interested to hear what anyone finds in the 125-240 range.

The Plan

1) Wait till Petsmart puts the Aqueon 125gal on sale again for $500, normally 650 to 699. Hopefully it's Easter they do it. I emailed Kevin at TUIC about a particular Amphilophus I want to get. He said mid April they should be in stock.
2) set them up next to each other so it looks like a 12ft long tank.

Replace tank on the left with a second right tank.
3) rehome my Nanolutae a Bushynose pleco and a Cory cat.
4) get a group of 6 Carpinitis for one tank and 6 Amphilophus Lyonsi for the other. My Bleeding Hearts and PTC will be Lyonsi dithers and get some Swordtails for the Carpinitis. Casper will stay in my bedroom, but in the oak tank ( left tank in above pic)

Gonna be a pain cause currently my Black 125(the Aqueon one) is in my bedroom with Casper in it.

I saw this as well, how the Aqueon 125gal disappeared from Petsmarts website altogether, but put that new Marineland 75gal on sale and first item shown. Must have bought a lot of them.

In the past Petsmart carried a 60" x 18" footprint, 120g made by Marineland but badged as 'Top Fin'. This was one of my favorite tanks Ive ever owned. It just had the coolest look about it being 5 foot. I was upgrading to a 210g from there and noticed when I took down the 120g that there was a crack in the lower back plastic frame. Since it was Top Fin and on their stand they gave me a full refund because of the lifetime warranty! It was liking renting the set up for free!
