What did you do with your tank(s) today?

My little 46 gallon community bowfront is a mess of activity, lol. With 11 monk tetra there is a lot of activity but add 6 hyper cory cats and its just a dizzying display. I haven’t had a chance to see what the plecos are doing but hopefully the algae levels on the glass will be kept in check. I am still on the lookout for a group of SAE to add. I noticed my centerpiece wood needs something to eat the stuff growing on it. Anyway this one is kind of a fun tank but soon will get my focus back on my cichlid tanks.
Not telling you not to get some SAE but in my experience the driftwood growth always goes away after a while.

The wood has been in a tank for a long time and is pretty stable but will get furry for a bit after I give it a good scrubbing. The BN pleco do help but I want some SAE. I had bought one from a local store but I wasn’t happy with their stock and sure enough it died. I will like add some SAE as soon as I find some stock I like.

How far do you live from Aquarium Co op? It might be worth traveling to them for some of their SAE. Their livestock is super high quality most of the time.

I got a response from Wet Spot and they have the SAE in stock but only one of the Cuban cichlids I wanted instead of the six I planned. So I am on a wait list to be emailed when more Cubans come in. Im also on the Imperial Tropicals email list for Cubans. This just has been a difficult fish to get a hold of lately. My other idea is to try a batch of Trimacs...

I know the guy I got the polleni from in federal way had a breeding pair of cubans. I haven’t seen him on here in a bit, but I’ll look to see if I still have his number and I’ll ask

I found the for sale ad and contacted him. His Cubans were having some issues and he had no fry at the moment.

Today I rehomed an angelfish and two platy. I ended up just donating them to Martin Henery’s. I need to move fish into the 65b which has a small L001 pleco. Either I put the growout Petsmart devil in there or an RTM female. If its the RTM, then this will be its permanent home. Anyway after this I have a 90 to open up for a cichlid project. Just have to figure out what cichlid now.

Lost a red wag platy today, not sure why. Just found it stuck on the filter intake. So when I looked into my other tank and did not see my pleco, I was assuming the worst. Started doing a water change and found him happily hiding in some driftwood, lol.

I am in contact with a breeder for a batch of F1 trimac. He is out of country till the 18th of this month but says he will get me set up with 6 of these guys when he returns. I rehomed my other shy-mac, lol. I have one 90 available and with a bit of moving of fish could have two. So plenty of space to grow out a nice solo male trimac.

Speaking of puffers, my arrowhead has been on a hunger strike. I think I need to scape his tank. Its only got a couple stones with java fern. I need to add some larger stones and driftwood. Hopefully it gets more comfortable and eats like a champ again.

Big clean on the 300. Pulled out the 3 large Mopani pieces on the right side and scrubbed them down. Cleaned inside glass back wall. Its a bit extensive since I pull sand back from glass and then clean the gravel line. Got half the tank gravel vac’d too. To most my tanks look clean but I see all the mess, lol. The other half of the tank needs some attention but not as bad as the side I tackled today.

Day off from garage tanks. They are so under stocked that they stay clean for longer. But that will change soon when I get some new growout fishes.

I thought you just did a big gravel vac on the 300 on Monday or Tuesday (if memory serves me correct). Is something going on in the 300?

No issues, just not up to my normal clean standard, lol. The 300 is one of my smoothest running tanks and most overstocked!

Im just going through spring cleaning mode. Im also going through all my driftwood and getting it all prepared for tank use. I have a piece Im adding a cave to. Want to use that as a sanctuary for the RTM female in the 65B. Will get some pics when Im all done with the final wood work.

@lloyd378, work in progress. Thinking even a fully grown RTM female or a Red wolf would appreciate the cave. It is a nice pass through. There was a extra chunk of wood in the back I had to remove to fit in an 18” tank. I need to dremel the back a bit to smooth it out but the front looked cool when I had it in the tank.

@Madness, those are cool looking. That one is the typical flying fox, Ive been looking at the SAE which are said to be less aggressive and stay a bit smaller. But Ive read MFK reports of 5”+ fish with aggression... no pictures however so not sure what fish those people had. Could have even been the CAE.
