What did you do with your tank(s) today?

I know I have at least one water change in store for tonight... Our person who house-sat and fed the fish is not a fish person and ended up putting flake food into my puffers tank and its all over  , A nice mess to clean up!

She texted right after she did it since she knew she messed up. I left detailed instructions and put the food out in measured amounts in little pill of the day containers for the tanks that were to be fed. The puffer was not to be fed while I was away.

I hate when I have non fish people watch my tanks. They always do something wrong. :roll

Edit: cleaned the 65B of the unfed tetra crisps. While it was just enough to feed my little red devils while I was gone, with the puffer who does not eat it, it became a gross slime everywhere it ended up. Had to pull out all decor and gravel vac. What a total pain! Live and learn, wont use that house sitter again.

Ugh that is so annoying. What was she even thinking doing that? Big water change definitely in order. I've left my fish for up to 10 days without feeding... but certainly fry or juveniles would be a different story.

I've done the same with the measured amounts in pill containers -- how can you mess that up? (Next time, you can ask me to feed them. I'll do it for free and would never overfeed!) :)

Did a couple of water changes yesterday. I drain my water out of the window, but it's getting to cold for that!

Actually my original plan was to not feed them for the 5 days I was away but when things happened that the sitter was available, I figured the new little red devils should be fed. I put the little container on top of their tank but the sitter added it to the top tank instead. I cant believe the mess that uneaten flake became.

The sitter is a sweet person but not a fish person. She realized her mistake and immediately texted but at that point she had already polluted the tank. I should have used a sitter we had used in the past who is a fishkeeper. She took the best care of my fish and I trusted her to feed the puffers and bichirs too. A live and learn situation.

Im at that same stage where its too cold to open up the house to drain water. Thankfully I have a tub and utility sink near my tanks.

Today was a little bit of fun, driving to Olympia Petco to buy their last 75 gallon at the 1/2 price sale for $99. Got it back in one piece and started to do the measuring and planning for my stack rack with my 65B and the 75. I believe I have everything worked out to have the bottom tank a foot off the ground and the 10” of clearance above the tank for maintenance. The top tank will sit at 72” but should be workable still. Just waiting for some feedback on it before starting.

Would be a little tall for me at 67in but I have a stool I use in the fish room that adds 18in to my height.
I wanted it to be a bit shorter but decided I wanted the height on the bottom tank and the access room. Will try and get by lowes today and see about getting wood.

Ordered an Aquaclear 110 for the 75g and glass tops. Still need to figure out lighting. I want my matching Current USA Satellite Plus like my other tanks but not cheap so I might just do a cheap beamswork or something

Edit: I went to Tractor Supply on River Road and bought the Dewalt rack. Its 48” tall and 50” to the outside beams. When I add plywood it will hold the 75g on top quite well.

I have Beamswork DA fixtures on most of the tanks in my fish room, and really like them, especially for the price. Add a bespoke timer/dimmer module to each fixture for an additional $13, and you have the basic automatic features of much more expensive units. You can see my review of these here-

Good luck!

I forgot my thing I did for yesterday... Not much, but went to Petco and bought a couple packs of frozen bloodworms and then fed the tanks. I usually only use these when Im dealing with little fish like my Petsmart red devils to put size on them or to get new fish to eat something. Anyway the little devils gorged on the bloodworms. The trio seem to get along pretty well, much better than the hoga trio but Im sure time will tell and one will become dominant and make life miserable for his siblings, lol. Typical cichlid behavior!

Bloodworms are like crack haha! Cichlid puberty is always so interesting when it happens. Glad the devils are getting along for now!

Woke up a bit early today so I did a water change on the garage tanks. The 20L with the 3 Petsmart Red devils and the 65B with the Arrowhead puffer.

The weekend goal if to mount a shelf on the garage wall and get some bins done and moved so I can work on the new Dewalt rack. I took Monday off so I have a 3 day weekend to get some stuff done. I need to cut and paint plywood for the rack so I hope to have the 75g set up by Monday but I will see what I can accomplish over the weekend and post updates.

Kind of like the pegboard sides for the racking... Might just add my own

Would be handy for hanging nets and hoses...
