I want to set it up today but feel I should wait until the new heater comes in...

I've been pilfering plants from my main tanks to stock grow out tanks, so I ordered some new Anubias nana, A. barteri, Java Fern, and Java Moss from the Aquarium Plants Factory, and I received the shipment on Saturday. Today I glued the plants to rocks- and managed to avoid glueing any of them to my fingers- and distributed them amongst three tanks.

Here are the grow-out tanks with the pilfered Anubias nana-

My new colony of Xenotilapia flavipinnis-

My Ophthalmotilapia nasuta Kipili Gold F1 fry-

The larger tanks with new plants-

Ophthalmotilapia nasuta Chimba Tiger and Xenotilapia singularis-

Xenotilapia spilopterus and Enantiopus kilesa-

WC Ophthalmotilapia nasuta Kipili Gold, Enantiopus kilesa, and Xenotilapia bathyphilus-

I've never had much luck with Java Fern, so this is an experiment. It seems to me that one important trick is starting out with really healthy plants, and I've been pleased with APF so far. :wink

Was up north visiting family the last few days. When I went down to the fish room the power was tripped. The light timers were stopped at 11pm so hopefully it was a less than 24hr event. I don't see any dead so serious disaster averted. Clocks up stairs were not flashing so I'm not sure what caused the trip.
I have some cherry shrimp that I received from @FishBeast over 2 years ago. They have always maintained a population but never more than a few. The colony is finally taking off and I can't count them all. Some are full lobster red and other look like stained glass.

Been away for a while busy with family stuff. My 75g is STILL cycling QQ. But I think it's getting close.

I pulled a spare sponge filter I keep in my tang tank for a quarantine tank and apparently it doesn't have enough bacteria on it? I did a little test to see by dosing it up to 3ppm of Ammonia and waiting 24 hours. No nitrates detected but down to 1ppm of Ammonia. The sponge had been in that tank for about 2 months so I don't know what gives. I don't know how to filter this quarantine tank. Just wait for it to cycle I guess??

It keeps getting better and better.
Thanks, now that all tanks are exactly the sizes I wanted, I can focus on some aquascape ideas. Still want a couple more live plants for the bowfront and then some driftwood changes.

Looks great!
Thank you.

The next step will also be a lot of fun, been getting a lot of aquascape ideas from all your planted tanks. What do you do to keep algae growth down on the rock work?

I use split photoperiod of 3-4 hours each separated by at least 3 hours in between (using a timer).

I keep the 6500K LED's at only 20% brightness, and I also have SAE's in most of my tanks. Doesn't eliminate the problem, just slows things down. When the rocks get unsightly, I just turn them over.

Nerite snails in non puffer tanks and BNP's
I do wonder in I could do the Nerite snails with my puffer? He is a piscivore... though he has chewed on heater cords and taken bites out of plastic plants. The other day I stuck my plastic tongs into move a plant and he tried biting them, lol.

My tanks with plecos do stay cleaner of algae for sure but this puffer would likely eat a bn pleco.

That is not going to work. I tried this with Tropheus, which are strict herbivores, and only fully grown (>1") nerites had a chance, and not a very good one at that. Nerites can't right themselves when turned over, so any inquisitive fish, even one without bad intent, can be life-threatening. :(

Thanks for that info. He is very inquisitive and checks out things that move. Even though he may not eat it, he would likely investigate it.
