What did you do with your tank(s) today?

IMG_5228.jpegIMG_5229.jpegIMG_5227.jpegAshamed to admit this, but it’s been a month since my last gravel vac on my cichlid tanks in the garage.

Today I fixed that by doing 40% water changes / gravel vacs on those four tanks (220g, 180g, 75gx2)

I also did the living room 75 but that’s only been two weeks and my bedroom 75 but that’s only been four days since I’m doing about 2 water changes per week with this one to make sure my discuss is healthy.

On a different note, yesterday I stopped by the Lakewood petco to grab some discuss bio gold. While there, I noticed that they had discuss the same size as my rescue. So of course I picked up an additional one. My plan is to grab 2-3 more in January once I’m done Christmas shopping for the family. My new one is red and it was called “a blood red pigeon discuss”.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Don't be ashamed, it's been nearly 2 years since I put the substrate in my 45 and I plan on vacuuming it zero more times, I did the "wave and hover" maneuver in my 29 today, and the only vacuuming in my 125 was to tidy up the sump. Honestly the only time I vacuumed the big tank since building it was after treating for camallanus. Not saying the no vac is the way for every tank, but no one's judging you :).

Today, I serviced my sump, changed all the tanks and did a little planting. We're getting ready to make the fish room festive so I needed to get it done.

Stopped by petworks in Olympia to grab a couple of different live plants for the discuss tank ( crypts) and saw the most remarkable thing… they had a red wolf fish that was about 3.5-4 inches, just a little thing, but it was swimming mid level of the tank right up against the glass and when I got close it charged at me.

Completely different than my old one that would hide nonstop or Dmd’s that also is a bit aloof.

If mine had acted that way, I would have kept it.
Mine acted that way when I bought it. They actually had a sign up not to tease the wolf. But it got shy for a long time and now its super outgoing but pretty blind so the fun of the fish is a bit dampened.

I think I might be ready for some stock changes... I know that three sevs are too much long term for a 90g, feel as if I should rehome two and just keep the one as the center fish. Maybe add a couple mid sized schooling fish for a bit of activity along with a smallish pleco, then call that one fully stocked

My 65b with the Sajica has been a disappointment with no breeding activity or much else to see happening in that tank... thinking a complete redo of stock. Something solo and outgoing? Another wolf fish (maybe a purple or orange) or puffer?

Green spot puffer, gobies and a Molly as a mascot. You are so clean going brackish and the issues that arise with nitrogen control shouldn't be a challenge. Would be pretty cool.
That would be one of the more active puffers and gobies are so cool. Hadnt thought to go brackish... Not sure if I want that extra work though with the special water conditions. This was a main reason I got away from a shell dweller tank was the extra work with the water. I like the ease of just tap water at correct temp and then just add Seachem SAFE and Im done.

Have you given any thought to adding the sajicas to the severum tank? I feel like they would be compatible and it might even lead to them breeding.

Kind of leaning towards just keeping the largest dominant male. Sajica males are quite attractive and can get quite large with many case Ive heard of them over 6". I wonder if a single male sev and sajica would work together? I know the sev can hit 8"+ easily...

I have a 6” turquoise sev that was living with a 2” buttekoferi and now it lives with a 5” polleni and a 10” chocolate cichlid along with two small polys

Concern was more about the sajica male being a bully than the sev. I actually have the ability to play musical tanks at this point and see how it would fare.

Tank wise, fed them lol

Then I had to scrape moss off the North side of the roof. About 1/3 through, but looks like I'll be able to do some better mounding on next seasons experimental archaeology growing pre contact potatoes.

Came in from that and found that one of my crosses produced their first four fry.

Morning water changes and a sad putting down the gourami with the huge tumor. Really like the personality of the gourami in the community tank, will miss her. Likely will get another as a replacement.

Bath day while her tank got a little clean up and roach wrangling done. The towel isn't to keep her dry, she did that under her lamp. It's because she just took a nice long warm bath and has a notoriety as the inappropriate pooper lol

Finally decided to start digging into blond genetics in my Endler colonies. These are fry from male French blue Endlers with black sharkfin tails with red and orange, with an all blue dorsal (the important bit for me). So I separated the blond fry from the grey and found my next rabbit hole, metalhead lol but whatever. The focus is blonds lol So I put these guys into my 20 gal swordtail tank. I'll pull the males as the develop and leave the females in. The bigger fish did try eating them, but they quickly escaped into cover and are now hanging with the swordtail fry under the protection of a guard Betta lol

Lugged this heavy chunk of jadeite out of the white river for a nice Xmas gift for the dragon

:)

Filled my hat with mushrooms too. Enough to fill the dehydrator and dinner

All the dried mushrooms fit in single bag :) Plus a pic from just sitting on a big rock in the river
