What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Been doing some serious rethinking on my stock. I have lots of 'Wet Pets' with almost solo tank situations going. Will likely start the rehome/selling off of certain fishes so that I can rethink my stock.

Keeping the solo Oscar and pleco in the 90 and the solo hairy puffer. The 46g bowfront needs a few changes but overall happy with it but will increase the number of plants soon..

I realized Im a bit bored with my trimac. It is not personable at all. Acts 100% like a wild caught fish instead of an F1. This is good breeding stock material but might be a hard sell since I went through that with his siblings. I am thinking that this may become a community tank with a large group of schooling fish and maybe a solo super red sev, pleco and some other smaller oddball.

Since my realization that I do have a pearsei growing out, I have no need for the two bocourti. Ive already put a free ad up for one hoplo since I wanted albino only and ended up buying a regular. This tank Im still not sure about but leaning towards another community tank, more toward a South American community.

Changes coming soon...

Haven’t been on much with the work schedule and my kids activities keeping me very busy, but figured I’d update to show everyone I’m still here ( and approving new members).

Anyways, I went to the garage this morning to grab some breakfast items and decided I would take a couple of pics of my garage tanks ( everything but the 125 and my female festae as I had my son move my ornates back to the 220g yesterday and the tank decorations look like a hurricane came through). So here are 4 of my 5 tanks running in the garage currently….A26F5FF5-C967-4008-A98D-D5BD5F6B5A99.jpegC61226F5-6B1E-43E3-92CD-165DF983C6C9.jpegE5A39306-1397-413C-B224-0D019E52278E.jpegEDF9A23F-CE28-4B75-9A38-75AD1C6A31A7.jpeg4BB36E45-B324-478E-A7E6-FD4BC6A0374C.jpegA1654AD9-517C-4354-AB88-071BB9A5B1C1.jpeg4270B036-23A6-4A4A-8A70-A8DCF4F5E84F.jpeg12E436CB-C2A6-46BA-B913-237EB14F122F.jpegCE128675-3C5D-46D9-8B0B-2C53AFD78A4E.jpeg78D06DC1-E58A-46DC-B7ED-D71707A84946.jpeg

It’s a chanco…. Actually a female chanco…. It will probably go back to madness if I can source a male at some point in the near future.

And yes, the Oscar’s are a lot. Haha

Started with the wild caught one, the bought the tiger to bring it out of its shell. I then separated them with only 1 in my classroom tank, but then the wild caught starting pouting so I bought the red Oscar. Long story short, I had to bring all fish home for the summer and now all 3 really get along together well.

@fishguy1978, Looks good in there, plus it hardly displaced any water being hollow!
Thanks for the albino hoplo, settling in nicely with the others.

I also managed to get my gravel vac water changes done today and I cleaned one Aquaclear 110 filter.

Speaking of rocks, I've been in the process of setting up my 'new' 112g acrylic for the last few days (thanks @fishguy1978!), and decided that it needed more hardscape than this-

So I collected a couple of buckets of rocks from my garden-

Hopefully I'll get the tank filled and the filtration set up today. I'll be posting pics of this project in my old thread 'Fish Room History, Tour, and Upgrade...' (https://www.wafishbox.com/forums/threads/fish-room-history-tour-and-upgrade-2021.15541/) in a few days. :)

This probably doesn't look very different, but there are now at least twice as many rocks as earlier today. The rocks are not just decorations: the larger rocks hide short lengths of PVC pipe that serve as refuges for any fishes that are getting bullied, the smaller rocks provide abundant nooks and crannies for newly-released fry to hide during their first few days on their own, and the horizontal rocks in the substrate serve as spawning sites. The Tropheus sp. 'black' Ikola colony that resides in this tank is self-sustaining, now with about 50% more fishes than when set up about 18 months ago. :)

Woke up early and cleaned out another garage Aquaclear 110. With 7 of them running out there, there is always one that could get cleaned. While cleaning up I also organized a little bit of wiring with my lighting. Coiled up a little excess wire and zip tied some stuff for a much cleaner look

I’m in the process of moving fish from one fishroom to another - bigger ordeal than I imagined - unfortunately, I lost my largest pair of benthochromis from the stress. Definitely bummed.

Not sure why - all the WC kitumba fronts did fine with the transfer but not the benthochromis. They seem to be much more sensitive to transfers. Whenever i have ordered them, it’s touch and go for the new arrivals but did not think one room to another and similar water parameters would be an issue.

Post motum shot doesn’t do this male justice as his trailers disintegrated and he lost a lot of his color. He was an impressive fish.

Bummer; sorry to hear that. Clearly that's one reason these fishes are so expensive...

Placed an order on Your Fish Stuff website for some more algae wafers. They are very well priced in comparison to the Omega One Veggie Rounds and the pleco all seem to like them. I ordered the bigger 1/2 pound bag this time around.

Started to try and get my pearsei eating a bit more variety of brands. I have tried to mix in some NLS and Dainichi pellets into its diet. It loves Omega One but with the supply issues going on, Im likely trying to convert to another brand thats more readily available.

I just finished setting up my 40 gallon breeder and stand in my man cave. Just need to get to hardscaping. Since I got that nice piece of driftwood from @DMD123 I had to get a new setup to help realize it's potential. Coming soon should be the setup before I start adding plants. Still trying to figure out just how to make the wood be a good centerpiece, but I have some great ideas.

Placed an order for some Northfin 'Jumbo' 6mm pellets to feed my Bala Sharks. They had been eating a Dainichi product that was supposed to be a 5.5mm but this stuff was getting hard to find. I had used the Northfin in the past, not a bad food but something is just a bit off to me with it in that the acceptance factor does not seem as high as others. But the Bala's should eat it, so no real issue with them.

For any of you that have Amazon Prime, Prime Video is airing for free (until October 31) the first three episodes of a PBS series called 'Rivers of Life.' Episode 2 is about the Amazon, and has some great underwater footage, including a spawning/rearing sequence of a beautiful, apparently undescribed cichlid that looks to me like Geophagus. Very cool. Great way for me to kill some time today whilst recovering from the bivalent COVID booster I got yesterday. o_O

Been looking at my garage tanks and contemplating stock changes... Thinking its time to change some occupants out and researching some ideas at the moment. The 90 gallon trimac tank is one that I really want to make changes to. It it a tank you notice when you walk in and its at eye level. I keep envisioning this tank as a community with a large school of Australian rainbows or tetras. A colorful schooler that catches your eye and then a single larger fish like a Super red severum. Then possibly some smaller fill in fish... but what? Something with color...

So I am just throwing it out there to you fishboxers... What would you suggest to go along these lines? Remember colorful, community and fits a 48" x 18" footprint 90 gallon tank. Also no special water conditions, so something I can just use my standard tap water without adding anything to have to maintain.

Edit: Added some specific fish I like. Boesemani rainbow, Roseline sharks, Congo Tetra, African Red eye tetra

Had to put down one of my monk tetras because it was swimming erratically on the surface. It was so bad I did not need a net to get it. I was able to scoop it up in my hand. Despite having it for some time now, it barely grew in size and always looked thin. I have another very similar monk tetra that is a total 'hermit' (@fishguy1978. lol) and does not school and just hides under the plants at the bottom of the tank. It too was purchased at the same time as the other I had to put down. I see it eat, but the odd behavior and lack of growth kind of weird. I would like to find a nice healthy batch of these Monk tetra somewhere and add to the school to get numbers maybe up to about 12. Very cool to see the schooling activities when the group gets larger.
