What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Was nice weather broke and we got a cool day. I woke early and took advantage of being able to open the door up and ran old tank water out on the lawn and did a water change on the 300 before work.

Ive been trying to be a bit more frugal about buying more fish food until I used up others I had. Sometimes you end up with small sized stuff when your fish grow bigger or it just may have been an experimental food that just didnt work. Whatever the case, Ive been going through all this stuff and feeding to the fish to get rid of it all. Its all high quality stuff just odds and ends. I even found a big container of NLS 3mm in the garage that I can use to feed the smaller plecos in the 46g.

Why does shit always hit the fan when you're on vacation? Came home to the male Bifa and female Zonatus had spawned and they killed 4 zonatus, 1 grammode, 2 delhezi. I remove them, leaving the babies in the tank, put the female in worth the Hoga, (she is bigger and currently doing great) put the male in with a female sagittae half his size, and she tore him up. What a day back.

Yesterday we did some trimming and water changing getting ready to travel. Hopefully the house sitter can handle feeding.

While I was working on the jungle 29 (and before pulling the mature endlers out, yes, there are a ton in there) I noticed a cool angle with the extra light that lets you see under the lower planting canopy.

I don't know why I never noticed how cool this angle is, I like that you can see how massive the root structures are. If course by this time all the fun fish are hiding but the endler guppies fear nothing...

Why does this tank run the extra full length light bar + the rack lighting?

This is before trimming but even after a trim I usually leave this about 2/3 covered by pads, then the ludwigia shades the rest.

Then there was the scheduled 8 hour power outage... I didn't really want to run the generator overnight so I set up an inverter (very carefully mathed out.. no, probably incredibly overkill in amp hours paralleled...) To run just the pumps since the room was near warm enough on it's own.

Disclaimer, I set the charger in there to double check amperage draw, I wouldn't actually recommend charging a marine starting battery in your house. The little sealed trolling batteries would probably be ok though...
Edit: yes, it did run the whole 8 hours, though my clocks tell me the outage was 15 minutes shorter than scheduled.

Was down in olympia today so I decided to make an impromptu stop at The Pet Works. Every tank was stocked, but not with anything that caught my eye….. a bunch of various community type fish ( actually a pretty great selection there), but they also had a number of tanks being treated with metro and other meds. I wouldn’t have bought any even if u found something I mined as that was worrisome.

Yeah, my last visit to PetWorks had the same tank issues. Lots of medicated tanks. Didn’t see fish looking bad but lots of tanks being medicated and observed.

Yesterday was a nice day. I spent time in the garage doing cleaning and water changes. With all the outdoor work going I felt guilty not spending time with my fish.

Water changes today on all 8 of my tanks! Also made the decision to rehome the red Dovii and the red jewels.

New plan for the 220g…. I’m going to move the wild caught Oscar and all of his tank mates from the 125 to the big tank and move the female festae and my two larger ornate bichirs into the tank with her ( as they will eat anything smaller than 5” ).

I also noticed that the female trimac was cleaning a spot on a rock today. I am hopeful that maybe there is a spawn in the near future!

One final note: my red wolf fish came out today during the water change and it has become a full on sausage. I’d guess it’s 7” long and as big around as a Johnson ville smoked suasage. Haha

@lloyd378, glad to hear your red wolf fish is doing well. Mine is growing well and eating pellets but is a huge hider. Seems this increased more when I gave him a BN pleco tankmate. They both hide in the fake log most of the day now. On the plus side this tank stays free of algae compared to before. It just looks like an empty tank, lol.

My bocourti tank is a mess! I think I might move the 2 hoplo and possibly the green phantom from the 46g bowfront as a clean up crew. Lots of algae in this tank and the bocourti tend to not eat food off the substrate. Clean up crew needed!

Was watching the 46g bowfront last night and spotted two of the baby bn pleco and believe there is a third smaller one too. It amazes me with all the other bottom fish in that tank that those few made it. Still considering moving the bigger hoplo and green phantom out of the tank and actually try a pleco cave to encourage them to breed again.

I think Im kind of in the same position as @lloyd378 about moving fish right now. Feel like moving my oscar into the 300. He is pretty personable and that tank lacks that right now. The bala's are amazingly huge and calm but dont interact the same as cichlids. Plus Im really getting tired of growing out these tiny bocourti for the 300... especially since the goal is to only keep one out of the three as the main show fish for the 300. The Oscar would be a nice touch in the 300 but not sure if i could add a bocourti in the future then.

That's about it for me. Just been doing regular maintenance and that is about all at the moment. I notice the Fishbox is going through its typical quiet summer time.

I think you’d have no problem adding the boucourti later as when Oscar’s get full grown, they really mellow out.

As for me, I swung by fishguy1978s fish room today and snagged an awesome adult BN male to go with my female….. it took about 20 minutes but then she realized he was in the tank. She is probably still about 1” longer than he is( she’s a white one and he’s brown), but I’m hopeful that I may have some bn fry soon ( I was also hooked up with a nice large bamboo pleco cave for the two of them!

The two of us discussed needing an in person visit to the aquatic madness lair( hint hint). I know I would love to see gil soon!

Pics include: my 3 BN plecos, the new pleco cave, and my red wolf fish coming out of his large hideout.67746E2A-3CEC-4604-BADD-8FEFB362501E.jpegAEBA4445-EB1B-4C93-8973-13C692D20F36.jpegF5E8491E-4B9A-416C-87BE-B5D3FB57B3E9.jpeg

You'll have more fry than you know what to do with soon.

Last night finally got around to spending time on the 300g getting it cleaned up somewhat. I will say that since I lack a primary focus fish that has personality in there, Ive let the tank get dirty looking. I have just done drain and fill water changes with no gravel vac or algae clean up so it was yucky looking. I got about 3/4 of it clean and just need a little touch up on the other quarter and it will look really good. The fake Universal Rocks really clean up pretty easy with a bleach bath. So far I dont regret the purchase, they seem to be holding up really well. The plants are another story... they are having a couple issues since they use metal in the plants and the metal is not completely sealed from the water so they do rust. At least its an issue with the one plant, the other two are holding up very well.

My Oscar in the 90 seems to be putting on size now. Looks much bigger now. Like mentioned before, seriously considering putting him in the 300. He is very personable and would thrive in that space. Just concerned with his eating habits and how he might gorge on the food meant for the bichirs. I will likely decide this week as to what to do about him. This would open up more possibilities... like another community tank. Either out of the 65B housing the Bocourti or with the 90g itself.

Also been thinking to try my little red wolf in the 300. Ive heard they actually get along well with bichir and have seen them kept together. I guess I need to deal with the Oscar first then decide on the wolf later.

I think the pro of the red wolf fish in the 300 would be similar food needs, but the con would be similar personality to the bichirs.

The pro to the Oscar is a begging wetpet in there, but the con would be it attempting to eat the food meant for the bichirs.

I’m currently dealing that with my bedroom tank and having my Oscar eat most of the blood worms destined for my fire eel. I am feeding him pellets about 15 minutes prior to feeding the eel and that’s helping
