What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Tired…long day. Began the morning with a water change on the 300, then went with relatives to Portland to pick up some tiles for their bathroom and kitchen. Since they were paying for the gas down, I volunteered to drive as long as we stopped at Wet Spot on the way home. They listed they had hoplo catfish but nope, not a one. Did get a L200 pleco (green phantom) and just got him settled into the 46g bowfront for the night. Hopefully he does okay with the two albino bristle nose in there. He is just a bit too little to go into the 90 with the oscar just yet.

Bumblebee putting on some size. Im keeping the growth slow and steady. Trying not to 'power' feed/grow the fish and going with steady instead of in spurts. guessing about 8"+

Yesterday, I drill a 3/4in bulkhead hole in the lower 55g on it's right side and a 1/4in drip line hole on the left side. Need to decide if this will be a dirted tank or not. Leaning towards not as I will be using sand. The stock is yet to be determined.PXL_20220404_025647929.jpg
Today, I cut the rest of the polycarbonate lids for the lower four 29g aquariums.PXL_20220404_025636053.jpg

Just got my delivery confirmation that my Aqueon Pre-set heater came in. Will drop that into the tank tonight and see how it does keeping a steady temp of 78 like it is supposed to be set at. I liked the fact that it is a no mess with situation especially for my application in the equipment chamber of the Flex. If all goes well, then maybe the puffer gets the Flex this weekend.

Got home and thought the 300 was looking grungy so I did a little cleaning and a water change on it. Also did just a drain and fill on the Fluval Flex so I could get all the ice cold water out and then installed the new heater and will check it tomorrow to see how well it’s holding temperature.

Can definitely tell spring is here. Algae growth has increased in tanks. Time to adjust the lighting schedule down a little. Been thinking about moving my aggressive little bristle nose male pleco in with my red wolf fish. The wolves get a bad rep for going gonzo at times and attacking tankmates but this guy seems pretty easy going… famous last words, lol

I unfortunately had to rehome my Peacock Bass from the 300 today as my Jardini Arowana decided to flip in the past couple weeks. They were all doing so well for several months! The upside is; I met a local guy who will be a good contact to have in the hobby. Cheers

Water change morning for me. I have a few more for the afternoon but 3/4 of the way done. Had a dead monk tetra this morning, one of the big ones. Likely just age since nothing bad going on in the tank.

Cleaned some garage tanks because of algae growth. Spring is here and more natural light is coming in so this is expected. Took an hour off the duration and turned the light intensity down one level. Hopefully this helps keeps the algae in check, otherwise will take it down another hour.

Began modifying final tank location. Was going to have an 8x3x30 450gal built but decided to add to it and instead I'm having an 8x4x30 600gal built. So i have to add 12" to existing stand. Also getting all the parts needed to build my own sump for this beast, the sump itself will be about 130gal.

Also building plant boxes so that i can have exterior plants growing using tanks water. Just set one up off of the pleco tank. It's only 2' long. I'm pumping up out of the sump, into the plant box, and it drains out the other end back into the sump. This is just a prototype that i can tweak a bit to suit what i want to see.

The family and I just got back from a small vacation to Seaside Oregon. While there we stopped by a unique store that had tropical fish and also gardening stuff ( two of my favorite things).

The fish section wasn’t large but for a tourist town, wasn’t bad. Saw a couple of fish unique to the stores I normally visit (large loaches and some fresh water eels), but of course it was mostly the bred and butter of all fish stores with convict cichlids, some tetras, and some mbuna. We also stopped by the pet works in Astoria and that was a disappointment as a whole since it was similar sized to the olympia store but without even a fraction of the livestock.

I was hoping to find a store that didn’t get their stock from the wetspot so I could see some unique stuff, but alas, nothing to be had.

We talked about heading into Portland on the way back, but the kids were tired and I was more interested in traveling up the 101.

While in seaside, we did check out their aquarium ( all cold water species and a special tank set up for some rescue seals. The kids did enjoy feeding the seals. We also saw a whole dock of sea lions in Astoria and you could even hear them from the goonies house. Haha

@lloyd378, I did a little road trip a few years back that included a stop at the Astoria PetWorks too, yeah a bit disappointing. The one in Longview was a bit better but nothing like the Olympia store. Sounds like a fun getaway still.

Morning water changes, with all seven tanks done! Did gravel vac on three and the rest just drain and fills.

Update on my defective heater… Aquacave never responded back, the manufacturer never followed up with a call tag so I contacted my credit card company and they are looking into it. So likely to be refunded. On that note, I have three heaters acting up in the garage so Im looking into replacement heaters.
