From the short video you posted I would say this is pair bond formation, as territorial aggression is much more, well, aggressive. Think of those little fin nips as love bites. :)

Ok, she doesn’t hammer him so hopefully she will calm down. He tries schooling with her.

Looking good! Beautiful fishes, and great to see that they're getting along so well. It doesn't always go so smoothly with cichlids... :roll

Well, he is a Heros Liberifer, which are mouth brooders and she is a pit spawner. So, the hunt is on for one or the other of opposite sex.

Oh, I didn't know that; I thought he was just a geographical variant of severum. Obviously I haven't kept up with the Neotropicals. Hope you find some mates!

I haven’t either. I was looking up Heros sp. and there’s quite a selection. These really aren’t severum either as it is a different sp altogether. Aqua imports has Liberifer but small and expensive for my tastes. But Christmas is coming. :)

Nitrates in the 220g are thru the roof. I did a 60% yesterday and am just finishing a 50% today. Forgot the heaters but the tank is maintaining 74 so I’m not worried there. Only one SD is showing stress from the nitrates.
