Through the wall / My Fish Room

Silicone arrived today. I also had one of the fastest tank swaps to date. Already moved the leaker of the rack and placed the two new.
When I first entered the fish room after work I was checking on the 55g planted and 2/3 of the rainbows, the choco latte, and the Liberifer were doing the food dance.
I have snails in every 29g and I am going to try to erradicate them from the L104 tank and the BNP fry tank. I might just bomb the tanks with copper after I remove fish occupants.

That is a gorgeous male. I think it's a Rotkiel though with that red shoulder. I found the post on FB and it's on a tank with other Rotkiels.

That’s what I thought too, but figured maybe he had a nicer one than id ever seen.

I was very close to buying a rotkiels from Wetspot a few years back but they were fairly pricey

That looks like a very big boy! I had no idea that 'severums' got that big!

Some of the more recently discovered variety do get 10in.

I think Wet Spot has some now that weren't. They have WC Liberifers right now but I haven't space and they are pricey enough to get me in trouble :)

Very nice stripes on those angels. They never get full finnage when kept with other cichlids (or nasty little nippy things like barbs or even some tetras).

Unfortunately, to true. The male did have nice streamers but the turquoise sev is boss.

What kind of angels are those? Wild caught or tank raised? I like the look of them.

For sure they are tank-raised, but they have more distinct stripes than you generally see in 'silver angels' at the LFS. Hell, you hardly see 'silver angels ' at all these days, what with the plethora of line-bred, man-made varieties that seem to have become so popular, things like 'koi,' 'marble, 'gold,' and various combinations of the above. Personally, I don't think any of these strains are an improvement over wild-type, but as a former angelfish breeder, this is one of my 'buttons.'

I still dream occasionally of having a large tank of wild-caught angels, the prettiest fresh-water fishes on the planet IMO, especially Pterophyllum altum. :) There is a nice article on wild angels here-

My favourite, Pterophyllum altum-

I agree that the wild types are definitely more alluring than the hybrids being pumped out just to make a dollar.

Being in need of a plant sanctuary after the loss of my 90g I have set up the 24in³. I rinsed one bucket of gravel from the 90 since there was dirt in it. Capped the sand in the cube and started planting. I found a batch of BNP and in the breeding log so I rinsed them into a bucket and deposited them in the cube. All the green slime should make a great first food.
