What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Shouldn't this sort of thing be in the 'Besides fish...' thread?
A nice reminder @sir_keith, I think we have all been guilty of posting something on this particular thread that is not fish related or its a stretch to say that it is. Probably much of what we post might be better in ‘The Lounge’ section.

Now would be a good time to remind all of us fishboxer’s that specific things like other pets (this would include cats, dogs lizards, etc.) would be better posted under ‘The Lounge’ section under “Besides fish, what else do you keep?” OR start a whole new thread specifically on the pet under ‘Photos, Videos & Journals’.

Not picking on anyone with this reminder. Just think if we kept certain things in certain areas they would really get the attention they deserve and keep other threads on track.

That's how distracting she was lol. I need to delete a lot of pictures because she just kept being cute in the same spot lol
Moved all the Magenta Endler "culls" into the kiddos tank to bring in fresh blood. His were chili Endlers, but the colors and patterns have faded. Now he has snakeskins and saddlebacks along with much nicer chili males. Next up splitting the blonde magentas again with the "confetti" male as the only male to start.
So now I can focus on Blonde magenta snakeskin shark tails that display as gold and red. The blonde magentas that are expressing as white body with rose pink have their own tank too.
Still need to cull the French blues again so I can get the tails of my snakeskin "Royal French blue" with purple irridescence can finally happen reliably.

Got another fun thing to feed yesterday. Kiddo has wanted a Venus flytrap forever. Loves carnivorous plants, but apparently my pitcher plants were boring lol. So I caved and grabbed one at Lowe's. Spent this morning feeding it larvae from the detritus beetles in Alex's roach colony (clean up crews are everywhere lol) He loves watching the trap close, but made himself a little sad after laughing that he could see the larvae wriggling in the plant. Then he was like "how long is it in alive in there for?"

First official freeze test of having the pond pump off and a bubbler going instead. So far so good :) The tubs are iced over, but the goldfish is otherwise ice free.

Made a fish trap too. For sticklebacks and panfish / bass fry at the lake, but could be used for those pesky little ones in tanks too lol
Wife: "Are you fishing in the tank?"
Maaaayyyyybyes?

Was a bit shocked that my new goldie shipped and it should be here this evening. They usually wait till Tuesday and I would get the fish on Wednesday.

Looks like my Ken's order will be coming in today also. New heater for the 65B red wolf tank and some more Dr. Bassleer Biofish food.

I had planned to order some fishes from Rare Fish USA this week, but the high temperature in Chicago today is 1°F. Brrr...
I was a bit afraid of my fish coming in during our low temps but the vendor said there would be no issues... If there is I guess I will be claiming a fish on the DOA policy.

But you have goldfish coming, right? I'm sure they'll tolerate a bit of a chill better than the fishes I would be ordering. Maybe next week...

Yep goldfish... One vendor goes as far as saying these (Thailand) fancy goldfish require 86-88 degree water!

My vendor says to acclimate at 78-80 degree but doesnt make it sound like they are a magical species of fish that require discus temps.

I run my tanks around 76-77 degrees so I have a pretty high activity level out of my goldies, but some of these temp requirement seem a bit much...

My flowerhorn was very sick when I was out of country for a month. My son's nanny came to feed him twice a week but no water changes. 75 gallon peacock tank water was at 65F since it's in outside non heated room, the 300 watt heater wasn't enough.

On Monday, I decided to put my flowerhorn down. I boiled some cloves and used that water to mix in tank. He went peacefully.

After that I moved 2 parrots out from 75 gallon tank to 40 gallon tank. I have about 18 peacocks left in 75 gallon now. I also added one more 300 watt heater, temperature is 75F now. Moved one injured peacock to 20 gallon hospital tank inside.

I am still looking for bristle nose plecos, to keep the outside tank algae free as it gets indirect sunlight.

Well I never got the fish yesterday, updates from Fed Ex were pretty much non existent. Showed it leaving Texas and making it to Seattle and then nothing. It now updated and shows it coming from Dupont today... I guess we will see how hearty a fancy goldfish really is.

Also my Ken's order is late... that one doesn't bother me because a heater and some food wont have any issues with the temps.

Fish arrived, temp of the water in bag was 47.4 degrees. It looks very bad at the moment, will see what happens as the temp goes up

Had the whole upside down thing happen with a previous fish and after about 24hrs all was well, so I have high hopes. But the fish does have a seven day guaranty...

Wow, that's amazing. I thought for sure he was DOA, but obviously goldfish can deal with some pretty extreme temperature fluctuations. But 47 degrees? 67 would kill most of my fishes...

It was interesting that the vendor had changed his method of shipping a bit. No rigid insulation lined boxes like he used in the past but a foam bag of sorts with a reflective type foil on it, and then he had used two of these bags. There was no heat packs either. I had emailed him in advance about heat packs and said they did not do them for safety reasons. Though their website says they would use them at their discretion. I feel pretty confident the fish will bounce back just fine. My main frustration has to be with Fed Ex and the lack of info about the delays. I did email the vendor asking about compensation. Interested to see what they say.

I'm not a fan of FedEx, but given the insane weather that the eastern half of the country has experienced over the last week, perhaps cutting them a little slack might be in order.
