My yard wok for the summer is done so at this point fall clean up with leaves dropping from our maples, a flowering plum and multiple oaks from neighbors that end up in our yard, lol.

With the extra wet weather my double gate have swelled and the little but of wood I shaved off with the block plane was only a temporary fix. Have to get out there when it dries and make a few more passes with it along the entire length of the board since now it sticks in the middle.

I really want to do some landscape lighting in the back yard this upcoming year. I have power out at the shed so I can set up timer there and then run low voltage LED's along the back and sides of the yard. But thats for next spring...

Took advantage of a relatively dry day yesterday to start my annual, season-long project called 'Fall Cleanup.' After the rain/wind storm earlier in the week, which knocked out my power for 24 hours, there were so many leaves on the ground that I could barely see my driveway. So yesterday's task was to clear off the drive and paths. Will begin on the lawns and beds next week, bit there's not much point in getting too crazy here just yet, as most of the leaves are still on the trees.

The fruits of my labors-

My winter camelias are already in bloom; normally they flower just after Thanksgiving. Go figure.

Getting ready for another season of yard work, lol

looking at removing an old concrete patio and part of an old antenna base so we can pour a little bigger patio and then grass over the where the antenna base was. If anyone has a good recommendation for a concrete company please let me know.

With that freakishly hot stretch last year and multiple trees getting burned, I was afraid I would have more losses but they are all bouncing back this year.... except this one.

My 'Wissel's Saguaro' false cypress did not make it. Believe it succumbed to a type of fungus. I guess the first five years for these trees can be the worst, once established they are very hearty. Will try another one in this spot. Hopefully I can find one a bit bigger. This did have good growth when we put it in the ground but at the end of the growing season, lower part started to brown and then as the weather warmed it just died off.

This is a little bit older tree as to what they look like when bigger

Ive contacted two concrete guys that I was referred to by others and am waiting to hear back from. The one I sent a slew of pictures and measurement so that we can at least get the bid/price part mostly figured out ahead of time.

So of course the slab where our fire table sits is on the demo list. This is where a radio tower once was anchored. we think this is a 4 foot deep cube...

Then we want to get rid of the small funky shaped patio and put in a bigger 14' x 14' one that would allow for seating without falling off the edge, lol.

Looking at all kinds of things with this, put in a pattern like a grid, stamp, color, stain... lots of ideas but we will see how it fits into the budget.

I was at my girlfriend's place today, and made a couple of short videos of her garden. If you click the 'Watch on YouTube' link you will get the HiRes versions. Enjoy!

That is a nice big yard that has many different ‘rooms’ to it. I wish I had that kind of space. Love the water feature.

Got a bid for my concrete patio and it is expensive since a lot of work has to be done the old fashioned wheel barrow method to get concrete to the pad. Granted its only about 20 ft but still, the moving of wheel barrows full of concrete not easy! Likely will be doing this in the next couple of weeks if the price can stay in the ball park we need. Our hope is to be able to do a 14 ft x 14 ft pad with a step off the back door and then a half-round added to the front of that 14 ft area. This would give us a nice large eating area and a place for the fire table. Plus we may be able to do future plans of adding some sort of gazebo or cover as more funds become available down the line.

Not a huge impact but a few years of growth and it will fill in nicely

Was thinking about putting a privacy screen up in that bed to block seeing the old dilapidated car of the neighbors. My property actually follows the angle of their driveway I am thinking of something maybe about 5' tall and horizontal slats.

A mock up

You could always ask your neighbor to buy a 488 Pista.

Still trying to secure my concrete guy. It sounds like its a go on the schedule but waiting on final numbers. could potentially be within two weeks... give or take, lol

With the new concrete patio I have some new areas that I develop as beds and the wish is for a couple more Japanese maples. One on the wish list is the way overdone crimson lace leaf or something along that line of the shorter, stunted looking ones and then another that I have not 100 percent decided on.

Yep lumber is still pretty ridiculously priced. Look forward too seeing the results.
