What did you do with your tank(s) today?

New little wolf settling in nicely. Has been eating well with frozen foods and is eating pellets. If it sees the food it gets it, but not sure about pellets on the substrate. Will be interesting when I gravel vac next to see if its been finding the food later. Very hyper fish. My old wolf had got pretty lazy and I had forgotten how active they can be when younger.

IMG_8859.jpegIMG_8860.jpegMy one and only hybrid…. Got him as a gift years back from a member on here when I helped him get some “red Dovii”. This was his little thank you gift at 1.5”

I didn’t even want it back then, but now that he’s about 13.5-14”, I really like his unique look. He is a mix of parachromis Dovii and Parachromis managuensis

Little red wolf seems to have pellets figured out. Did a gravel vac and zero pellets. Since the Hikari Carnivore is essentially a small version of Massivore, if it doesn’t get eaten it can pollute your water fast. The pellets are the perfect size for the fish and he can swallow them whole. Been using frozen mysis and brine shrimp with him too. Great little eater.

Had half a day at work so with my found time off, worked on scrubbing down plants and fake rocks in the 300. Did some glass cleaning and gravel vacuuming too. Got about 3/4 of the tank done and refilled. Just 1/4 left and it will be sparkling clean again.

With the rain comes earthworms, so the red wolf and puffer have had some treats. Been looking at Universal Rocks for some ideas to aqua scape the red wolf tank. Im thinking about trying a fake cypress knee piece of wood instead of the stones Ive used in my other tanks. Looking for the right scale since I need to take the wolf’s adult size into consideration. Granted my last wolf sounds like he was on the large end of the spectrum for that fish. Will see if I go that route or just add a few larger smooth river stones intead.

Yesterday, I took my son up to the newly opened “tropical fish world and pets” now located right as you enter Buckley…..

They are still stocking stuff as it hasn’t been reopened long, but they had 20+ tanks full of community fish and goldfish. All were exceptionally clean and all fish looked healthy. I didn’t buy anything as nothing would have worked with my current inhabitants, but I was still impressed with the quality and selection. I should add that at their previous location they had more odd ball, hard to get fish, but I’m guessing that will come in time.

They had a nice selection of foods too, including sera, extreme, fluval, and of course hikari.

Finally, besides the large selection of reptile / cat/ dog supplies, they had a great selection of tanks. Both nano and slightly larger ( up to 125g. All tanks were priced well. I was also impressed with their all in one nano tanks and their prices. I’m not a nano tank person, but I was very tempted to purchase a 5.5g all in one tank and their celestial danios. I think it would have looked great on my bathroom counter!

All in all, if you do community fish or slightly fancy goldfish ( not as fancy as DMDs), I’d recommend checking it out.

I’ll post the address in the comments as the address google maps has is stil the old one.

Thats awesome that the business is up and running again. They used to have great prices on new tanks, hopefully they continue to have great prices.

I’m hopeful they will since it’s the same gal running / owning it.

Went at the 300 with more scrubbing of glass, intake tubes, plants… but still need to clean off three of the larger fake stones. For having 3/4 of the tank done, I really should have finished but was doing a lot of hard core detail cleaning so will see if I can finish up tomorrow. I really need to spend more time on the 300 so I dont end up with so much cleaning at one time.

Typical weekend routine with light cleaning, gravel vac water changes to all the garage tanks. Everything looks sparkling clean right now.

Been on the lookout for one more goldie for the 65B but online selection has been a bit slim because of the holidays and many of the vendors just not bringing any new stock in. Once I find that fish and run it through QT, I will likely break down the 20H and rethink the fishroom a bit.

Still not really happy with the Fluval Flex and am at the replace with a 40B or to modify with a larger pump and spray bar. Either choice would likely be about the same amount of money to set up but going with a new tank would allow me to sell the Fluval and at least try to break even in the end.

What size is the fluval flex?

What specific type of goldfish are you looking for? I am not well versed in these fish, but I know that the pet shop in Buckley had close to 5 tanks full of goldfish with some of them having the odd shapes and fins like yours ( though I’m 100% sure they aren’t considered as fancy as yours).

I also know that odd, sound negative, so I should probably called them unique shaped fins and bodies. It’s worth a call to ask. I know I saw some calico colored ones and also just basic orange and white ones too.

lol, a lot of questions…

Fluval is 32.5 gallons, I do like its dimensions: 32.5″ L x 15.35″ W x 15.75″ H

Looking for a short body oranda type goldfish. Like my SHOGUN or yuan bao types in what is sometimes called a red tiger or kirin colored fish. Also possible I might consider a demekin which is a Ryukin with the shoulder and telescope eyes. I know what Im looking for is not available in any store, I will definitely need to order online.

I do want to stop at the new store and look but am not looking at the more common fancies.

Being winter there isn't much going on in the pond. However the hazelnut is sprouting buds while the planter it's in is currently 6 inches or so underwater lol I know it won't survive forever underwater though. Still interesting to see it. Might pump a little water out later. It can tolerate a lot of water, but usually grows on willow beds, not directly in.

Ended up buying a Cypress knee from Universal Rocks. First time trying the fake wood instead of the rocks.

This is for my red wolf tank. Should be a nice focal point for the tank.
