What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Stopped at Aquarium Paradise on the way home from work and picked up Hikari frozen krill. I really want to try and focus on the red on the severums and see if they will improve with diet changes.
I've never been convinced that any of these 'color enhancers' do much of anything beyond a perceived placebo effect, at least in the kinds of fishes that I've kept over the years. YMMV.

I would agree when it comes to enhancing certain colors like yellow and blue. But red, that one can be enhanced. Ive seen pics of what should be yellow fish turn almost orange from the color enhanced foods. Since this is the specific color range I want to enhance, I think food may work

OK, so let's test your hypothesis- weekly pictures without any Photoshop enhancements. :)

The idea of this makes me think. A color balance indicator card taped to the back of a tank would make an easy way to set white balance and temperature. This game could still be easily fooled with a strip of red LEDs placed on the front half of the tank as they tend to have a dramatic effect on reflective things but wouldn't tint to color index cards.

Cleaned 5 Aquaclear 110’s and did water changes this weekend.

Debating adding schooling fish to the 90 severum tank or setting it up to let them breed. Same with the sajica tank, do I add schooling fish or livebearers or try and breed them too? Need to stop at Lakewood Petco and see what they have for stock and go from there.

Am I missing something here? I'm not seeing that this is an either/or situation with adding dithers vs. setting up for breeding.

For survival of fry… I would want to ensure the safety of the babies especially if I did the severums since this variety is an expensive one. Also just me being thrifty, individual fish not too badly priced but when taking a base price and multiply by lets say 7 fish starts to add up. I want to add a group of these to 2 tanks so now it is starting to add up a bit.

I think I get what you mean: buy 60 "schooling fish" for $120-$600and quarantine them in the 90 vs buy 6 schooling fish for $40-$120 and put a light diffuser/mop/whatever equipment is needed to breed them, then breed 100 and give me some :).

It depends on the fish and how significant the water parameters are for breeding. It's a pretty serious goal to churn out tetra, a little easier with some Rasbora. Are you thinking characin or cyprynids?

I'm looking at buying 40-60 rummynose or similar tetra pretty soon I bet there's a store nearby that might be able to help with wholesale pricing since the best deal on the Internet for these species is in a black out zone thanks to the local business policies they have agreed to... then there's always aquabid...

Not really looking the breed the schoolers but by not having them in the tank chances of fry from the sajica or red spot severums would have a higher chance of survival since the other fish would not be there to eat them.

Aquarium Paradise gave me a deal when I did a special order for a large number of dithers a few years ago. Dom’s good about doing things like that.

I would think if you contacted Wet Spot or Imperial Tropicals that they would do some sort of discount for a bulk order of fish. My recent order from Exotic Fish had a nice discount just because I asked. Instead of $119.99 for my rare silver dollars, I got them for $89.99 each. A discount of $30 per fish ended up saving me $240. Plus it was free shipping included.

Back from Lakewood Petsmart and picked up 9 Beunos Aires tetra to add to the Sajica tank

The first thing the sajica did was to start going at the tetra so I decided to distract with mysis shrimp and that gave the new fish a break while they ate. Good sign that the new fish ate too.

Was afraid to look and see if the tetras were still alive in the sajica tank... lol. The cichlids are very closely related to convicts but not seeing the outright boldness like cons and the proliferation like cons. They really need dithers to make them come out of their shell and hopefully the tetras will do okay for that. At least these are less than $3 a piece, get pretty sizeable, and seem to hold there own pretty well. At this point I dont care if the sajica breed or not. Wanted at least a single male with a nuchal hump on it because it looks like a mini midas.

Weird day… came out to fishroom and found my L200 hi-fin dead. Nothing visibly wrong with it. Belly was not bloated or thin, looked really good. I got it at a pretty big size to begin with and have no idea as to age to begin with. Sad to lose such a cool pleco.

Yesterday, I helped our HS science teacher set up a 90g that was donated to the school. It came with a magnum 350 but even after lubricating the oring it still leaked. I already had plans to remove the two AC110s from the 220 so I donated one for the cause.
Today, I added 9 orange swordtails and some crypts. I have a background I will add to help cut down on light from the window. IMG_20230917_114227~2.jpg

Weekend tank cleanings made me realize that I am done with my planted tank. I put plants up for free in the classifieds. I am thinking I might pull the AC110 off the 46g and make it a backup filter and put my backup AC70 on the tank as the full time filter. I still want to keep this as a community tank of small colorful fishes just no more live plants.

I vacuumed and pulled plants in the 125, the windelov has been doing too good, and unfortunately had also been harboring a bit of hair. I sterilized a couple of the ones I pulled and put them in the 29. We cut and installed new blinds in all the rooms including the fish room and put up a shelf. My wife thinks I need to get rid of my little love seat couch to make room for a writing desk and rack for the horns. So far, it's staying lol.

Some pictures of the current state of things:

A lot of activity with new Buenos Aries tetra in the sajica tank. They really do better with dither fishes. Rearranged their tank a bit and removed a couple decorations to make focus on the breeding pot, hint, hint, lol
