What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Im leaning toward changing out my Monk tetras in my 46g bowfront. While they can be tight schoolers they also tend to startle easy and once spooked they take a while to get back in formation. Also I am thinking of something much more colorful and unique looking maybe like one of the smaller Australian rainbows? Appreciate any ideas from you guys.

Edit: Was looking at some common cherry barbs but they are colorful and might fit the bill.
Make sure you get females otherwise the males won’t color up.

Thanks for that!

I was also considering some of the smaller danios. Maybe something like a Celestial pearl. Or Celebese rainbow is another possible option.

Of course the cost comes into play with this. A single cool fish at $7-$8 is not a big deal but when you are purchasing a school of 9+, then it starts adding up. Thats primarily why I chose the Monk tetras at the beginning because they were less than $3 each and at one point I had 11. I think the cherry barbs are not too much so this might give me the color and price I want but still open to other ideas.

Or forktailed rainbowfish, Pseudomugil furcatus.

I went to aquarium paradise to look for additional apistos but they were out. I settled for two large gold guaramis to go with my two opalines in my planted 75.

I also looked at the monk tetras for a school in that tank, but now second guessing that after hearing about Their personality from dmd.

Pretty little guy. Is that a female poking her nose into the third pic?
Yep, I have two females with him but they act as if they are not interested. The male seems to like a female swordtail though, lol.

Actually you might have better success with the bigger tank. My small tank may make them a bit more skittish in nature. But I will say the bigger the school the more comfortable they seem. At 11 they seemed much more comfortable.

I agree. Most tetras don't consider 6 a school; more like 12 as a minimum.

Yesterday was just feeding the fish and I added a bit of bigger rounded gravel to the Oscar tank and did a extra water change while I was at it. I like the look of the larger smooth stones mixed in with the sand. This tank is a bit too boring for my liking. Considering a redo on the aquascape. Maybe tall and skinny decor as opposed to the large 'log' I have laying in there currently. Seems to take up a lot of the Oscars swim space.

Mine die every time I try o_O
I got the parents of these little guys from @John58Ford last May, and they have done very well in my tanks, perhaps because my water is so hard and Calcium-rich. But here's a mystery (!)- at the same time the little gold snails started to appear, there are also some little ones with grey-blue shells. I had never seen snails of any sort in this tank before I added the parents.

The ones from John are albino so the grey-blue are the natural.
