What did you do with your tank(s) today?

Like I said I bought mine used, the wood showed very little signs of wear. I used it for a couple years and sold it with the tank and it still looked the same. Only thing I had issues with was it was tough to get some of the small hard green algae spots off with the included pad. I'd use a blue shop towel between the magnets for that. I think they are 4"x2".

So do these have the "hook" like the hook and loop (Velcro) plastic for the inside magnet or is it something else? @fishguy1978? Any other insights?

EDIT: Looked up the replacement pads and see that it does use the velcro on the inside pad but then it also looks like you can add the white pad for acrylic

Yes, there’s a Velcro pad on the inside and there is an acrylic safe pad available too. As long as you don’t pick up sand in the pad they last quite awhile.

I know there is this fine line of having a magnet powerful enough and whether or not you need the floating ability or not. I have a Fluval magnet that is designed for curved glass. It does not float but the magnets hold and never drops off. I used this on my Flex and bowfront and its a great combo. On my thicker 65B The Mag Float 125's are easily popped off and float away, while the 350 is perfect. The 90g tanks with the thinner glass the mag Float 125's work pretty well.

Ive got to the point where Im lazy with the garage tanks and actually keep a magnet on each tank. This is funny because its one of my pet peeve's when I see pictures especially potm type pictures where this is in the tank, lol. Just say it... hypocrite

Went to PetWorks and found a nice male apisto to go with my two females. Could not believe they still had the two Bocourti I took in… they seemed to have put on some size and looked healthy but were hiding. It been over two months and they still have them. They are easygoing, can get along well with other fish so its hard to understand why they still have them. Oh well, I cant sell the fish for them.

I think most new hobbyists are setting up small tanks. It is getting harder for the stores to sell anything of size. Pet Works told me last year they would no longer be carrying African cichlids as they have such a limited market. I think even Aquarium Paradise is getting more selective on what fish they will accept.

Yeah, Ive noticed PetWorks cichlid collection has been getting progressively slimmer. The sad thing is that the Lakewood Petco is starting to have a better selection, lol.

Otherwise day of garage water changes and spending a little time watching the fish.

I'm curious- do you have a schedule for water changes, like what percent and how often?

Weekends, usually Saturday I do my big water change with about 1/3 happening in the 300 and 1/2 or 50 percent for all garage tanks. These usually include a gravel vac every time. If I see a ton of surface waste from the pleco on off days I may do some small mid week gravel vacs. Usually these are 25 percent or less. The other goal is not to overstock so less to clean up.

One of the little Sajica is acting as if it is ready to breed. No partner but it has taken over a pleco cave and is actively defending it and tube is dropped. I keep thinking its way too small , but have to remember these guys are basically like convicts, lol

I have automatic water changer and change 1/3 to 1/2 water volume on all my systems daily. Overkill but I’m on a well and don’t pay for water and keeps my nitrates near zero.

For years of keeping my large vegetarian Pearsei, Ive always been on the lookout for a high quality veggie food that was floating, and a large enough pellet. I have used the Hikari Cichlid Excel which is okay but looking for something just a little better. I just ordered a container of the SERA XL designed for African's and am going to test it out. Ive even sent emails out to companies like Omega One making the suggestion. Some companies respond, most dont. I really like the Omega One veggie floating but at 3mm is useless on a 16" fish, lol. They pretty much ignore it.

The math just doesn't make sense to me, unless you're dealing with some kind of space constraint.
I think you hit it on the head. I believe some stands dont allow for the larger diameter 4 or 6.
