What did you do with your tank(s) today?

That is pretty funny it just says "anubias species" maybe the intern forgot to turn in this months inventory before the production run so they made them with the place holder name. The one in my QT turned temporary Shelly tank was originally in a tube like that, it's loving the Tanganyika water, hopefully these do well for you .
The taller plant had one leaf that looked like arrowhead shape and the rest look a bit elongated. No clue what it is but it was taller stemmed so Im trying it the background. I probably ended up with another hastifolia that will die real slow. Im hoping at least the free hitchhiker nana makes it.

Went to pick up a festae that was listed on Craigslist earlier in the week.

I went and picked her up - unfortunately by the time I got there she had her jaw broken by the bigger female in the owners tank - I picked her up hoping I could save her but she can’t eat and is waiting to die - very sad.

My early morning spent with a simple drain and fill on the 300 to get the fish fresh water.

We did approve the bid for the new water heater and it looks like beginning of December we get that installed. Looking forward to a new unit that works properly. This one is just a bit bigger than our current unit too.

Fish room cleaning, fish swapping around, baby retrieval, and performed my first gravel vac in the pleco tank since setting it up. Quite pleased with how clean the gravel was considering that there are 12 plecs in there. The Amph tank currently has 4 pairings in it. The barred midas have swimmers, the orange midas have wigglers, the Chancho have eggs and the big (DMD) midas has spawned with one of my orange girls. At least he picked one of the more attractive ones :rofl this time.

Went to Bonney Lake Tropical Fish World this afternoon and picked up a couple small piecs of lace rock for the shellie tank. Plan is for a couple more sight barriers between shell groupings and more shells are on the way. Prepping for more fish to be added and hides for the new fish. Going to do it all right when I add the new fish to throw off the pecking order and give the newcomers a way to fit in without too much issue.

Nothing. I got my COVID booster Sunday morning and am still recovering. :( Hopefully I can get back to fish room chores soon; a few tanks are overdue for water changes.

Did you react to the booster?

Yes, it was my third (booster) shot of the Moderna vaccine. But it's not the vaccine; it's just me, as I always react strongly to antigens. The good news is that I clearly mount effective immune responses to vaccines; the bad news is that these shots tend to make me feel quite unwell. Hopefully I will feel better in another day or two. All I can say is that if the vaccine (which is my friend) makes me feel so poorly, I shudder to even imagine how the virus (which is not) would make me feel. That said, it is nice to spend some quiet time in the fishroom, doing nothing except enjoying the fishes. :)

New Occelatus came in and got them into the tank this morning. No loss from acclimation but lost one immediately due to aggression despite rearranging tank and adding rocks and shells. There was one DOA in the bag but I call it okay since they threw in a HUGE 'sample' of their fish food. So basically six new fish in the tank, will see how many make it over the next couple of days. The largest male (established one) is so bold, bit me multiple times as I rearranged the tank, lol.

This week has been a little cleaning each night with more Aquaclears getting done. Fitting in one an evening had made it pretty easy. I might just make this my new pattern instead of trying to do all in a day or over the weekend.

I just received an e-mail from Rare Fish USA about a shipment of wild Tanganyikans that is soon to arrive. It includes Triglochromis otostigma, a beautiful biparental mouthbrooder that I kept years ago, and would love to re-acquire. These fishes dig elaborate tunnels in the mud floor in the lake, and can (sometimes) be coaxed into spawning in lengths of PVC tubing in captivity. These beefy fishes are compulsive diggers, so if you think a few shellies rearrange your substrate, you should see what a 5" pair of trigs can do! Yikes! But do I have room?

I wonder if a dense clay mud could be used with these.

I don't know, but it sure would be interesting to try.

When I had a pair of these I gave them a 48" tank with a thick layer of sand as the substrate, and I buried a number of pieces of PVC pipe, ~6" long and 2" diameter, in the sand. With all the digging, they eventually found a few of these, and emptied them of the sand, creating artificial 'tunnels' in which they spent a great deal of their time. I think there were a few spawning attempts, but the female died several months later, before I had any fry; I never knew why. If I get a chance to do this again I will provide massively more filtration/circulation; not sure what else to try. BTW, the pic posted above is a good representation of what these fishes look like in life, very pretty fishes indeed.

Ordered online from Petco... I really hate how hokey the website is. I placed an order because of this email:

The "See Details" takes you to the Petco web page but no information is there.

Then I put stuff in my cart and there are hidden sales not even advertised. On my Omega One and Fluval bug bites foods it was buy 2 and get 1 free. When its all said and done my subtotal was $69.72 but with the discounted food (-$18.91), free shipping and tax it was like $55.89. But no where in the final stages of the cart does it say I am to receive a $25 eGift card. So I call the Petco customer service and they reassure me as long as my subtotal is $50+ then I would get my $25 eGift card. Will wait and see... If I do get the $25, I just scored a ton of fish food and supplies for a great deal!

This was the order:
