EDIT 11/8/24 - BUSSINESS NOW CLOSED

Keeping original post intact, just updating information to reflect closure of the business.

A update on one of the vendors: https://www.goldfishisland.com/product-category/goldfish/

There was a fish I was very interested in but at $189 I was a bit leery because something was a little off on the fish. It appeared to have one anal fin a little deformed and honestly for that price it would not have been worth it. I emailed the vendor and asked and they responded back quickly "Yes, One is smaller than the other." So my suspicion was confirmed that there was a bit of an issue. Kind of sad cause the fish looks pretty good otherwise.

So I did appreciate the fast response to my email inquiry and the honest answer. I feel as if the website should be updated to point out the flaw and a slight reduction in price but that's up to the vendor. Being that I am a fairly new fish shopper with them, I will say their web site can be a bit overwhelming at first with the pictures and videos but now that Ive been there and looked at stuff including previously sold fish, it gives me a much better idea of what Im looking at.

You are going to have a ton of tanks of goldfish!
Just a single tank for now…. Maybe more later. Been expensive ordering all these fish recently! I have to chill for a bit

Stopped in to Lakewood Petco and saw they carried 5" Oranda for $59. They actually were decent looking fish, though very common types. If I wasnt such a fish snob, they are good basic fancy goldfish.

Its been interesting learning the background of the goldfish and its Asian background. Mostly Japanese, Chinese and Thai seem to have an interest in these fish.

In my background or heritage the Korean goldfish is a fish shaped pastry filled with a red bean paste.

Wow these are beautiful! It seems like you’ve been bitten by the goldfish bug!
Thanks, love the color and personality. Very calming to watch the gracefulness of the rosetail oranda and comical to watch the tail wag of the Ranchu. Took me a while to come around to them but happy with the change. Im just trying to get the one tank settled in (going from the 65B to the 90g) before I decide if I will do more than one goldfish tank. Been kind of expensive buying these guys online but Im getting the exact fish and colors I want this way.

Another store to add to the list for online goldfish vendors
Ordered due to a clearance sale of a fish Ive wanted for a while, a gold coin scaled ranchu
Usually go for around $250, this guy was marked down to $199 and then the 50% sale, so great deal!

EDIT 8/9 - Update, very strange but I had to euthanize the fish about 2 1/2 weeks after I got it due to a swim bladder infection. I started antibiotics but couldnt save her. Now Im not sure if this was a fluke or I was sent an unhealthy fish to begin with. In fairness the fish are known to have swim bladder issues and the stress of shipping could have been the trigger.

EDIT: I did contact the vendor about the fish being sick and dying so close to when I purchased it. They were awesome and gave me a $20 credit towards another order. They did not have to do this at all but it showed me they value repeat business. I did order another fish from them because of that and it is very healthy and thriving.

Thought I found the elusive 'Milk cow' ranchu...

D.jpg
Turns out it a close look alike called a 'Water ink' ranchu. A true "Milk Cow' would not have the black through the scales it would be white. Oh well, would have been a steal at $149.00 asking if it was a what I was searching for.

Been editing this thread as Ive ordered fish from different vendors. I have expanded my goldfish now to two tanks, a 90g and 65B. The wife commented that the ones in the 90 were the pretty ones. I think that perception is because they are bright fish on a darker substrate and some of them are the long fins which are very beautiful. Doesn’t hurt that the tanks are at eye level that catches your attention.

Not 100% done with getting new goldfish. A couple more are of interest to me like a high quality ’Milk cow’ ranchu, but these come at a high price and I just haven’t found ‘the one’ that meets my standards yet. I still cant believe I got into keeping these fishes. Will continue to edit this topic as long as I keep adding to the tanks.

They are probably far more peaceful than the cichlids you have kept and the bickering they do….

I know the allure of a peaceful tank ( as my bedroom tank is discus and tetras ).

Interestingly they are 99.9% of the time relatively peaceful... Yesterday the new fish started chasing all the other fish in the tank it was introduced into. A bit of roughness during feeding too but seems to have settled in. Otherwise I can sit in front of the tank and watch them just calmly swimming around with no chasing or bickering. The 90 gallon with the Oranda's is a ton of fun because they eat out of my fingers with pellets and I tong feed them frozen brine shrimp. Always a weird sensation as your gravel vac'ing the tank and you feel them nibbling on you, lol. At this point I dont think I would do another goldfish tank but might add two more fish and call it done with new goldies.

This is the new guy

I must say all of these fishes look to be in great shape, especially just after being shipped.
The last one was next day air, the vendor only offered that option for $45. Most others are around $29-59 for 2nd day and even then they come in pretty good shape. The only exception was ChuChugoldfish that basically sent the fish with barely enough water covering it. That one was a bit rough but it settled in within a day. Overall the goldies are pretty hardy, was kind of surprised one of the vendors was so adamant about water conditioning brand and aging the water.
