What did you do with your tank(s) today?

@lloyd378, what has your experience with jardini been like? Are they are aggressive as everyone says? Are tankmates out of the question?

I would consider a jardini for my 300 but would like to keep the silver dollars and some sort of large bottom fish maybe

They are every bit as aggressive as advertised. I think a school of silver dollars would be fine as they are far too tall to be eaten by the jardini. Mine is constantly swimming back and forth open and closing its mouth trying to size up the larger schools of tetras I have in the tank with him. To date, he has eaten 10 Pearl danios, about 20 feeder guppies ( the clown knife had some too). Plus he gets a large cricket daily too. On the other side, my silver eats two small crickets a day and some vibra bites, but hasn’t touched any of the feeder guppies I bought for it and are swimming it it’s tank. I do believe at some point they will be eaten, but it’s also growing slower than the jardini too.

Thanks for the info @lloyd378, along with your response on my other thread about my 300g restocking. I need to get the fishroom set up better to grow out a little fish. Right now the only space is my 46g bowfront, was hoping to get things moved around and at least have a 40B or 50B to work with. Really like the look of the jardini but the aggression makes me rethink since I dont want just to one fish if it decides to go on a killing spree. But then again a 20" Jardini would look pretty good solo in the 300... lol

There are a few videos on YouTube where people with large tanks have jardini in with other large fish, Oscars, datnoids, and others.

In college we had that 10ft long 300 gallon with a jardini, silver arrowana, and 3 softball sized blood parrots. We did the wave/ current makers so the fish spent most of their energy swimming and had nothing left for aggression .

I will say, if I feed my jardini 2 large crickets then he is full and won’t touch the pearl danios.

I think a jardini would attempt to chase the silver dollars, but he wouldn’t kill them, in my opinion. I also think if you bought one small, you could put him in the 300 and with the silver dollars being large, he may grow to just accept them as tankmates.

Males are out too. I think the dojos with dot instead of mottled pattern are cool, but never see them available. Apparently I have one but never noticed lol

Another oddity death, my tri~color oranda just dead. Was eating just fine the other day, no signs of distress or issues and today dead. I was thinking my one gold oranda was a bit “off” looking but still eating and acting normal otherwise. This was the one I was carefully watching. Like said, other fish was completely fine just yesterday….

Today my son helped me by doing a massive gravel vac and water change on my 180. The Midas cichlid and his girlfriend appreciated it.

Then I did a little water change 25% range on the gully tank…. I now have about 25 babies in there, but one of the male guppies and also a female are missing….. couldn’t find them anywhere so I’m guessing they died and both the shrimp and the snail disposed of them.

Water changes this weekend like usual and cleaned an Aquaclear 110 too.

Having lost another goldfish, I made the decision to not get any more. I will not replace any more and if I lose more, I will be rethinking having two tanks of goldies. The sudden death in these expensive, highly line bred fish just isn’t worth it anymore.

Im super happy with the progress in my red wolf fish. Very outgoing little guy. Has made me think about the possibility of trying him in the 300 if he gets as big as the last one got at 12”. And as inactive and as much of a pet rock my hairy puffer is, its another fish I really like keeping too.

My jardini hasn’t grown that much in length, but it has grown taller and wider. The growth is actually impressive as I haven’t had it that long and I remember them taking a lot longer to grow ( back in college)IMG_0183.jpegIMG_0184.jpegIMG_0186.jpegIMG_0188.jpegIMG_0187.jpegIMG_0186.jpeg

Put some pond grass and a willow in the smaller pond. Hopefully that cuts down on the hair algae. At some point I want to put medakas in there, but for now it's empty. Hoping the willow and grass provide some shade. It gets full sun currently.
Two years of training those roots so I could do this lol

Also got a new plant out of the vernal pond yesterday. Need to ID it still.
