Welp, unfortunately on day 5 of quarantine one of the perch has died. Oof. Moved the other one to another tank. Maybe I’ll do an autopsy… not sure if worth it on a fish this small. IMG_0715.jpegIMG_0739.jpeg

Skinny bellies... are they picky eaters?

Sorry for the loss, cool fish

@lloyd378 @DMD123 Thanks guys! The other one seems to be ok. Eating live only… I have to email the vendor to ask what these guys have been eating. They are indeed picky and almost impossible to wean on to pellets… :( the one that died was less active from the start.

I was gonna grow them out, keep one and sell the other to whoever would be interested. They’re pretty rare and these ones were on the cheaper side compared to Predatory fins or Aqua import.

They get to over 2 feet and same care/behaviors as datnoids but can tolerate cooler temps.

Since I’m down to 3 bichirs and the datnoid (who’s getting up there in age) I was going to redo stocking for the 210 which would have the perch as the centerpiece.

I attempted autopsy but it was too small so I botched it and mashed up the organs beyond recognition. Very skinny, sunken belly. Externally, no sign of parasites or lesions. Fins intact. Eyes clear. Gills appeared normal. Mouth and tongue normal.IMG_0735.jpeg

Update! This perch is now 4-5 inches and easily my most interactive and alert fish. Chases finger and tries to bite through the glass! Eating frozen smelt, pellets and worms. Note the turbulence generated by its aggressive chasing. Video soon!IMG_2551.jpegIMG_2550.jpeg
