What to Stock in my 15 Gallon Column Tank

So... my 15 gallon column tank has been undergoing some changes... I've pulled out most of the fish, and have had it stocked with pygmy corydoras, sparkling gouramis, strawberry bettas, and ember tetras... I need something that will stay in the middle/top portion of the tank.

I was thinking Neon Green Rasboras, since they would contrast really well with the Ember Tetras. However, I'm still open to other ideas.

I might just put in a 20" Clown Loach and call it a day. (/scarcasm)

Here's what the tank currently looks like right now, as you can see...with all the fish I've listed, it still looks pretty dank, since most of the fish like to hide inbetween all the plants (I've actually hacked away a bunch of plants, which makes it even barer now. This hasn't changed the fish's behavior in any way.)

Ive never kept a traditional 'community' tank but have always wanted kuhli loaches because they just look like little eels. I also like the look of the Panda loach during the black and white phase of its life. I know that is not really a help since you already have you bottom fish with the little cories.

My 55 have Khuli loaches already so I would want something different in the 15 hehehe

Panda loaches are neat, but mad expensive lol!

Iranian red rainbows would be fun, pricy. But fun. :p

Maybe I will just put a pea puffer in there and let him go to town on the other fish.

I saw them at WetSpot and they were about 6-7 a piece. I just went and checked and their prices have definitely went up for them.

Some other nano fish I have had in mind that you may look into are:
Blue neon rasboras
Dwarf emerald rasboras
the green neon tetra you suggested
Phoenix rasboras
Chili rasboras
Pristella tetra
and celestial danios

I can totally come up with a ton more if you want lol

That would be an awesome little pea puffer set up! You never know he may accept tankmates.... (as food)

I suggested green neon rasboras not tetras. Lol

I'm assuming those are the same as the dwarf emerald rasboras :)

That list looks nice! I'll do some research when I find some time.

Thanks!

Not a problem. I have an excel file of nano fish I can easily email if you'd like.

We are so limited in what we can put in these smaller tanks. I am at the point where i am only going to have large tanks for displays, small tanks for holding. Seriouly....

So - you a have 'center' fish? Like the Strawberry beta? I would do a species of small Rasbora like you mentioned. They should hover mid to top and should stay out in the open.

Other ideas would include probably removing other fish. You know like a dwarf type Gourami. For my taste I would probably choose dwarf green pike cichlids and choose fish centered around them. This is a bed side tank right? I could totally stare at a pair of green dwarf pikes until I fall asleep :)

Oddly enough, the strawberrie Bettas stay down low. Odd little things.

Those suggestions look neat! Thanks for giving me all these possible ideas, everyone!

I take that back... I was wrong about the Dwarf Emerald Rasboras, and thinking that you meant Neon Green Rasboras... I know Dwarf Emerald Rasboras as their scientific name "Danio Erythromicron" . . . oddly enough, they're also called Rasboras. (Kinda the same way Celestial Pearl Danios were once called Galaxy Rasboras...etc)

Anywho, those might be an option... I still do like the neon green rasboras. They're pretty neat looking and contrast in colors with the ember tetras.

The neon greens would look good with the ember tetra. I just bought a few adult white clouds for my mom after seeing the nano display at the Co-Op and I love them. I want them in my tanks now. :D

You're talking about the long fin white clouds, ya?

I've had the regular white clouds in this tank when I first had it set up (you've seen my video before with the white clouds in it and whatnot hehe) and yes they are pretty awesome! I want golden long fin white clouds (for a different tank).

:)

Our LFS had them labeled as just white clouds but they have the red fins on them and don't look full grown to me. Not compared to the ones at the Co-Op.
