Suggestions for Cleaning Mineral Deposits off Glass?

So I got another 10g for free, but it has moderate mineral deposits at the top. Back in the day I had a 55g with heavy deposits and was never satisfied with any of my attempts to remove them. I figured before I even started to clean this I'd see if anyone has any wonder tricks or tips for cleaning up this tank. The sticker says the tank was built 4/12 and the silicone looks great. Thoughts?

Mine wasn't that wide of a band but probably about as thick. I used a razor blade to it while dry. Just stick it at an angle so that it slides along the glass but you still get shreds of the deposit curling off. I can't see the deposit at all now :) Good luck!

Razor blades are certainly my preferred method, I wish someone could explain what happen on my 55g. Best explanation I could get was that the minerals had basically welded themselves to the glass. I'm hoping this tank is new enough that it will all just come right off. I've heard vinegar, anyone ever try that?

Just found this website:

Anyone have any luck with any of those or should I test each method on each side and report back results?

always use some sort of liquid when trying to remove any sort of stain or deposit from glass. if you dont you run the risk of doing even more damage.

I like to fill the tank up with water and then pour about a gallon of vinegar into them .... In about a day, you can wipe the deposits/ scum/film off with a cloth!   I've done this with last two tanks I picked up off of Craigslist and it's worked like a charm
