It was bound to happen... a replacement for the Fluval FX5 is on the way, the new FX6
This was from a UK site: http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/aquarium-supplies/fish-tank-equipment/aquarium-filters/external-power-filters/fluval-fx6-external-canister-filter.html

I guess the two knobs on the top are completely useless in the sense that all they are for is month and date settings for cleaning, nothing else. I am intrigued by the new basket design...

Ive loved having my FX5's on my 210g and am interested to see what improvements the FX6 brings to the table.

I'm not sure what the point was on Fluval maing the FX6 if it's gonna be less powerful than the current FX5 ?? It's not a huge amount less gph but i would have went with more.. I guess i'll just stick with the FX5's i have..lol

Wow they really dropped the flow rate! You could look at it two ways: less flow equals more dwell over media, or more flow pulling water over media more times per hour. Either works great. I'll stick with wet/dries!

I love the FX5's that I have but I dont like the sponges on the outside of the baskets. That is why I am interested in the new basket design. The sponges are custom fit and expensive to replace.

I can't read the flow rate...but there was a big discussion recently on one of my other forums about the flow rate in the current FX5 being TOO fast...so fast that the filter became more of a mechanical filter than a mechanical/biological filter. Possibly Fluval took note and decided to make some changes as slowing the flow rate down DOES as Addicted2CAs said, allow for more dwell time in the filter.

Will be interested to see the reviews on this one.

Most people think the flow rate on the FX5's are too quick, when actually when they're loaded up with media they're pretty slow. They're rated as 925 at the pump, but then it drops way down to the 500gph range when media is added..
Even then i'm happy with mine but i'd liek to add 2 more to my tank.. :)
