Mosquito larvae

I found a bunch of mosquito larvae in some standing rainwater in a clean container in the yard. Before dumping them out to their deaths, I wondered if it would be safe to feed them to my non-herbivore fish?

I saw a thread or a comment on this very thing on Cichlid-Forum.com last year, I think. Fed his fish pretty exclusively on mosquito larvae throughout the spring. He was feeding Mbuna, iirc, as the thread was centered around whether or not the protein would cause bloat, and claimed to have remarkable growth during that period of time while maintaining complete health of his fish. Anecdotal at best, but it's a data point of some kind.

So, fwiw, I think I would give it a shot, maybe start with a few and see how they take them?

Thanks, I think I might. I dropped a couple of them in a tank and they lasted half a second before being gobbled up by one of the fish.

Fish love them. When I was soaking some large mopani pieces outside in a barrel I would get mosquito larva in there. That was the only time I have ever used my brine shrimp net, lol. Dont even know why I have a brine shrimp net....

I have so many different types of nets! I netted a bunch out and they were quickly eaten, except in my calvus tank. I only put two in there to start, but they just watched them -- didn't eat them. I hope they eventually get eaten so I don't end up with some mosquito borne illness.
