Picked up some native elodea canadensis out of the green river during some restoration work. Can't buy elodea in pet stores, but I can propagate native elodea :)
I have been searching for it for years. Yes, it's a simple plant. But it was a huge part of the bits of school I enjoyed. Brings back great memories of science olympiad competitions :) Have it in my indoor daphnia culture. Love it and now I know where I can find it and when :)

Exploring pond life was always my favorite part of my favorite class. Science teachers always felt like being around the art teacher if they had a different brain lol They both present concepts and understanding that stretch the mind in joyful ways. Simply as an artistic expression elodea is beautiful, but it's also beautiful when being studied and understood. Even just a basic experiment producing gas bubbles makes it more fascinating and artistic.
